new and want to buy DP5 -have some questions

Post by schubert1828 »

Does DP 5 work well with Roland SOund Moudules? Does it handle MIDI messages and program changes better than say, Sibelius?
Currently I operate Roland xp-88, xp-30 and jv2080. I own multiple expansion cards for these modules. I am hoping to get a program that will better manage sound banks and program changes. Those of you who know Roland know that their way of categorizing sounds it horrible. But, I'm stuck with Roland having invested much into the equipment.
Any thoughts on DP5 and handling these issues would be appreciated.
I am eager to purchase, but am not sure yet.
Many thanks
Stefan

god, yeah. a million miles better than sibelius.

i'm on 4.61, and i can't imagine dp5 will handle it any different.
i use 2 jv 1080's, and programme changes, etc, are a doddle. most of the patch changes are already pre-installed with DP - you just pull down the menu, choose which sounds you want, and away you go.

sibelius and MIDI are just horrid.

I have an XV-5050 and it works great.

Be sure you take advantage of the competitive upgrade to DP -- sounds like you will qualify. I don't know where you are located, but best US price I've seen on competitive upgrade is here:

New, Version 5 Competitive Crossgrade

thanks emulatorloo and doodles
Sounds like just what I need. The built-in sound moudle patch changes are exactly what i was looking for.
All the best

You can also use DP to handle SysEx, changing Roland's patch parameters.

Another good thing to know about is the donationware Cherrypicker, which lets you create and/or edit patch lists for DP.
