••• Support for SD2, AIF, and BWAV files simultaneously, as well as 16- and 24-bit files of the same sample rate. Still having to convert every imported file into SD2 is crazy and can easily double the amount of files on one's HD.

••• Let me click on the line between two automation nodes to drag it up, down, left or right. Shift-clicking the nodes blows.

••• Right-mouse/trackball button support so I can assign it to the Zoom/Magnify tool for MUCH faster navigation.

OK, bug fixes first. But then:

1. When adding a track, I'd like the option of getting a pop-up window that allows me to rename it and configure input, output, inserts, sends, etc. Saw this in PTLE, and it seemed much more convenient than going to the tracks window.

2. Similarly, when adding markers in PTLE, a window popped up with the name 'Marker 1' highlighted, making it easy to rename 'em right then, without having to go to a separate window.

Just a couple of little things to speed up the workflow.

Improved, faster "freeze" function. I'm sure someone said that.

Maybe our definitions of "Solo in place" are different? If your definition is "solo while maintaining panning perspective" then you might have another listen. This works fine for me in 4.6.

I've like a way to dump the complete current configuration to a text file. Including all preferences, what tracks exist, what their state (solo, mute, rec enabled) is, what plugins are present and anything else that would be useful in comparing our configurations in online forums such as this. This would also be useful when sending bug reports to MOTU.

We have a command on our hardware products that our customers issue from the router prompt:

show tech-support

This dumps everything that our tech-support people want. This command, in fact, was developed as a collaboration between customer-support and development engineers. And, it's output is constantly being updated to include things that tech-support finds useful in debugging customer problems.

MOTU, add something like this, and your support capabilities will take a quantum leap over your competitors. Plus, you will empower your users to figure out their own issues more easily by comparing configurations.

In fact, I'd be happy to write a web form that takes two configurations and outputs the diffs between the configurations. So, Johnny (who is experiencing issue A) and Sally (who is not) can easily compare their configs to see what's different between their setups.

One of my wishes for DP: a nice feature of drawing programs...

- grouping (of selected MIDI events)

For pattern oriented style and beyond. Much more powerful than that pattern concept in Logic and Cubase...

PCM: In the Sequence Editor, no need for the bogus move. Just select Volume (which you'd have to do, anyway) to display the Volume automation track. Then hold down "R" or tap it twice, and start drawing your automation. Click at the left-most point in the track and drag a pixel or two. You'll get a 2-point line which will set the volume for the rest of the song if there are no other points following it. As soon as you release the "R" (or double-tap the "A" key) you can start editing.

The mnemonics are "R" for "Reshape," (drawing tool) and "A" for "Arrow" (cursor).

If you want to do a LOT of tracks in a hurry, in the Sequence Editor, hold down the W key while selecting "Volume." All VISIBLE tracks will switch to Volume display. Then hold R and draw a quick 2-point line in each track, then edit if needed.
Yes, but the only problem with that is I want the line to appear where my volume level is CURRENTLY at, not where I click. In other words, I want to "continue" from where I already have my fader set. Pro Tools has had this for years. Same thing with "pan".

Have you used Overwrite? In Automation Setup, choose Overwrite as the Automation type for all tracks (or the tracks you select), then hit play and stop. Current positions are written for volume and pan (and any other currently active automation parameter), extending to the end of the track. Then Overwrite changes to Touch, so that it doesn't rewrite your automation every time you hit play.

Am I missing something? Is this what you're asking for? I thought you just wanted to be able to go directly to a track and draw the automation you wanted. If just recording current levels is all you want, then Overwrite is your answer.

If you want automation levels for every single effect parameter, without actually moving them first, then that's another ball of wax. That's the last thing I'd want, because then we'd have a dense jungle of automation parameters, requiring endless scrolling just to go from displaying "Volume" to "Soundbite." But it will record Volume and Pan just by starting playback in Overwrite Mode.

[edit] Oh, and I'm completely forgetting about snapshots. Have you tried that? Does all the above without having to hit "Play."

1 - Highlight the two mono tracks, and do aMERGE AUDIO on them
-Switch to the Finder
-RENAME the tracks there to whatever you want, but append .L and .R to them
-drag either of them to the soundbites window, or a stereo track directly
-Select the resulting stereo track IMMEDIATELY
-do MERGE AUDIO one last time on the new stereo track (or you'll be sorry!)
-delete the original mono tracks
- - long, but it works
This is not exactly what I would call funtional. If we are requesting features that are usefull why not make it simple. While in the sequence editor just pull the two mono tracks into the created stereo track. It does work in Pro Tools that way.

A 'link play to screen view' button in all editor windows.

When enabled:

- the playhead plays until it hits the right of the screen then stops. Screen view does NOT move on to next portion of timeline.

- hit play again and wiper plays from left hand side of screen view to right and stops again as above.

- in between hitting play you can move back and forward along the timeline or change zoom level. It will always play just what is displayed - then stop.

- disable button to resume normal playhead operaton.

A lot of the time I want to replay sections of audio whilst at a reasably high zoom ( approx 1/2 to 1 sec per screen view or even less) often looking for those 'buried transients' or MIDI detail.

I hate having to hit stop just in time before the screen redraws the next section and then reposition the wiper by clicking in that narrow field at the top or by dragging it (especially dragging through MIDI data).

Usually I just want to run through a screen's worth of audio/MIDI 2 or 3 times before either moving on and doing the same on the next portion or zooming in for slicing/tweaking and so on. So setting up memory cycle is not worth it or the play selection cycle thingy and I don't find the scrub tool useful at all.

If there is a way to do the above I haven't found it yet, but I don't think there is.

"view comments in SE window"

What's wrong with the drop-down next to the record button/light?

And to the person who asked for a way to easily audition samples/loops/etc and add to track...YES PLEASE. This is so easy to do in Live. And doesn't Logic play at least Apple Loops in sync with your current tracks when you audition?

My personal fave...please let us add the control panel to a pane in Consolidated Windows so it doesn't hog my screen.

Create Track(s) from Soundbite(s), and name it with the soundbite name.

More options in Prefs so we can work in our own ways. Ex. MIDI scrubbing option (OFF). Don't load Polar and all the other bells & whistles that bloat the program. Automatically insert Vol & Panning in Audio tracks (or not). Just more options. Oh yeal, why does the curser dissapear when you edge edit or time compress, I'd like to see as a pointer for where I am.
