Long time ago, i've made a test between DP end PT using a Digi 001 and the result was that both DAW was playing the same files a different way.
DP was more open in the highs (maybe harsh) and more dynamic.
PT was more like a pumping compressor with more bass and less dynamic.
Of course, i was not able to do the same test with my Motu hardware, but for DP was sounding better with 24 i/o.
With Digi 001, for me, both Daw was not sounding right in terms of transparency.I think that every software has his own algorithms to play audio .This test was made using 1 output for each track, so it has noting to do with the way the internal summing is done...
I'm using DP for years now, but the best native Daw i've heard in terms of audio quality is Sequoia(Magix),so sorry it's only for PC !
sounds fine in DP, no so fine in Pro Tools

i don't really notice any difference in sound between DP and PT. i go between both pretty regularly.
if i'm doing that here in my space then it's worth noting that both systems are run from the same external clock, and both systems are only using digital i/o to a yamaha dm2000 mixer. so they both use the same DA converter. so if it's the same file, same clock, same ad/da, then i do expect them to sound alike which they do.
