I was very curious about that exact screenshot myself. I think it's definitely different technology. Even when I mute a track, if it has audio in it with plugins I still get a hit as compared to it just not being there at all. I tested this.

Of course, I've noticed a few other things. My machine has 2 gig and 2 1.8 Ghz processors. If I have say 8 stereo tracks of audio playing through a few plugs. If I have Firefox and Itunes open (by accident) I was getting drop-outs. I closed both programs without restarted DP and the hits were reduced tremendously. I wonder if other applications that use audio cause latency when they are each trying to use them. My next experiment will be to not let the system EVER use the MOTU pieces and see if the CPU usage drops further.

Also, I think it was memory. Having 2 Gig means each processor only has 1 Gig to use, so I am sure of this being an issue as well with other things open.

Regardless, I can't wait for DP5 to ship...

r.
Sounds like you might want to take a look at Muse Research's Receptor.

Price here in the UK is £135.13 (£115 plus 17.5% VAT)

From the demo I saw Magic Dave give here in London, I reckon this is great value ....

It seams like allot but when you consider what the price of the manual alone would be its a good deal.
And it is nice to have a hard copy that you can sit back and look at I'd hate to have look stuff up on a PDF all the time.

I reread the description of "Productivity Enhancements" and have decided to order the upgrade right away, as I am now convinced that the automated audio resource management is going to make a world of difference.

Even though I only have an 864 MHz G4 iMac with 384 Mb RAM, if one extrapolates to a more powerful machine the scaling helps some but still hits a brick wall on most projects, so I consider this new feature to be the most important upgrade in DP 5 from a practical point of view.

Nevertheless I'm surprised it wasn't already there. Granted, I am still learning more depth on DP and probably have a ways to go before being an "expert", but I really didn't expect so much CPU and RAM overload from unused tracks! Certainly one doesn't want to have the bookkeeping of two versions of a project just to manage resources.

I've just ruled out TC Powercore for off-loading CPU as I'm not too impressed with most of their plug-ins and as the Wave Arts stuff is really winning me over. So I think the Muse Receptor is a more practical long-term solution to enhancing performance, alongside MOTU's own refinements and the inevitable computer hardware upgrade cycle.

I'd love to be able to search a PDF since I rarely know what I'm looking for!

I'm going to sit this upgrade out until a DP Universal Binary is available.

Well, now that I managed to get my serial number by calling tech support, I think it was when I first started using Performer, I just placed my order. Although I will be scared to death to upgrade right away as I am in the middle of a pretty big project.

I will keep an eye (ear) on the screams coming from this forum!

Peace

My cpu usage is hovering around 40%.
If you are maxed out with your current project, something is wrong with your system and it's not DP. I know for a fact that PSP Nitro is a CPU hog so maybe that's your culprit, but even so, you shouldn't be that far up on the cpu meter.
Nitro is deffinetly a HOG!!! how much ram you got... I only have 2 GIG... would more help... I heard DP cannot use any more than 3 GIGs..
I believe DP can address up to 4 gigs of ram.
I'm using 2 gigs.

Are you referring to: Track Enable/Disable? Here: http://www.motu.com/products/software/d ... ivity.html

I'm not so sure how this is all that different than the existing method of simply setting the Voice to Off or setting the track to No Output. It will simplify things a bit, but I don't think this feature will help DP in the cpu optimization area.

In earlier versions you need to configure "size for you studio" from
Setup -> Configure Audio System -> Configure Studio Settings...
As far as I know DP keeps some resources available so that if you have made track and it's not currently play enabled or something - so that you can always enable these without noticeable delay. So with this new feature you could actually disable tracks so that they don't use any of your CPU(s). I might be wrong altought.

I just ordered the DP5 upgrade from the MOTU website. They took my money, and the auto-response said my "order will be processed shortly". I would be surprised if it wasn't ready to ship... :?:
