Does anyone know if the effects have changed and/or improved in DP 5?
Also, if you buy the upgrade when it's released in a few weeks, do you have to pay again if you buy an Intel Mac this summer and need the Universal Binary version of DP 5?
These are the ONLY two factors that will affect the timing of my own purchase, as I'm deep in a project right now but desperately need better effects processing yet need a more powerful computer to host them .
I'm not comfortable with buying the Intel Mac based on "promise dates" or ETA's for the compliant DP 5 -- only once it's actually OUT and has passed the end user tests with flying colours. And certainly I'm not going to buy the upgrade TWICE! So hopefully MOTU clarifies this policy?
I just saw the track enable/disable feature listed on MOTU's page (which I swear wasn't there last night when I checked!). That's enough to accelerate my buy, unless as I said before one has to pay twice for the UB later on.
Surely this feature was already there, and I just didn't notice? I've been muting tracks once no longer needed (after submixing, etc.). Or not. I'm still probing deeper into ways of improving DP performance.
Last night I noticed I had fewer audio overload incidents if I DIDN'T mute tracks and then solo them, but unmute them and solo them instead (a bit more work, but apparantly less strain on the CPU). So this "new"(?) feature of directly enabling/disabling tracks apparantly informs DP to not waste no-longer-needed resources?
does anyone know how this usually works, as in; is the upgrade only from MOTU for $200 or is it going to be from dealers at $150 or $100?
I'm not sure I want to wait anyways, but just wondering.

In the past, upgrades have only been available through MOTU (I think). Crossgrades you can do through stores and whatnot.

yeah I just a site (forgot who) that had a crossgrade to DP5 for $300. vs $200 for the upgrade from MOTU. I'm not faulting them, just don't want to see it for $100 less next week.

just be carefull what you are stepping into...Logic though more efficient is the exact opposit of it's name...
r.
Thanks for your advice,
but DP is already CPU hungry at this moment.
And if this thing keeps on eating my machine power more and more,
I will evetually have to switch to a different sequencer.
Since there is no word called "Optimization" in MOTU`s dictionary..
I`ve been waiting for them to optimize performance when you use
VI plugins for a long time.
But someone in another thread said the recommended
system requirments for DP5 are G4 1GHz Dual and 1G RAM,
so this means the system requiremts are the same as DP4.
Im not sure yet, but thinking of upgrading right now
I feel your pain when it comes to optimization... I have 3 VIs + 7 Audio tracks + PSP Nitro on about 3 AUXes on a G5 DUAL 2 GIG and I am hitting 100% on the CPU!!! WOW! I have no Clue how people are using DP for anything more than Rock music! on a recent rock project I did DP was a star... Tons of audio tracks with EQ compressors delays etc... nothing too extreme I was only hitting 70% and I was able to finish the track without hitting any walls...
as soon as you use VI and complex FX (like Nitro) DP falls apart...
will DP5 fix this... I'm not holding my breath, but I will never switch to something else... I'll just find other technical solutions... I got a UAD which helped a tiny bit, but a seperate VI/FX machine is in order I think...

I currently have a project open on a dual 1.8 (2gigs of ram) with 4 VI's, 36 plugins, 19 mono audio tracks, 7 stereo tracks, and 4 MIDI tracks.
My cpu usage is hovering around 40%.
If you are maxed out with your current project, something is wrong with your system and it's not DP. I know for a fact that PSP Nitro is a CPU hog so maybe that's your culprit, but even so, you shouldn't be that far up on the cpu meter.
Great family and friends!
Mac Studio M2 Max, MacPro 8 core (trashcan), MacBook Pro 16 in 2023, OSX Ventura, DP 11, Pro Tools, Logic Pro X, Motu 112D, 24Ao, 8M, 896 MKIII, UA Apollo 16, Waves Horizon, Slate Everything Bundle, Plugin Alliance Bundle, UAD-2 Satellite DSP Accelerator, UAD Apollo Twin.
Native Instruments Komplete 14 Ultimate, Console 1 MKIII w/C1 Fader
My order is in and it comes with another manual maybe I'll actually get a chance to read this one.
Now if UPS can get it to me with out holding it hostage at the boarder.

Hey there.
If you're not seeing a Unisyn patch list in Digital Performer, it has nothing to do with DP itself. DP5 won't change anything in this regard.
If you tell me which Unisyn-supported MIDI devices you have that are not correctly displaying patch lists, I can probably help you fix that. Please email me directly at magicd@motu.com.

Nitro is deffinetly a HOG!!! how much ram you got... I only have 2 GIG... would more help... I heard DP cannot use any more than 3 GIGs..
