Bongo!
You have the exact setup that I am looking to buy, and I would love to hear in detail what your system can and cannot do!
ie:
-RealTime control of VST plugins via Rotary knobs on 01V96,
-How many inputs @96kHz/24 Bit simultaneously thru mLan
-Live input monitoring capabilities through Plug-ins and latency
-How do the Yamaha onboard FX sound compared to the stock DP effects
Any info you have would be great, either respond here, or at my email address: androidmedia@yahoo.com
Cheers!!

Re: Hey Bongo!! 01V96, mLan, and DP4.5
Its working well enough that I sold my previous audio interface etc shortly after. The desk is great value for money and the documentation was good so no troubles getting the most out of it. I was previously using it through my MOTU-828mkII audio interface but when the mLAN card came out I realised I could sell that for more than the mLAN card costs! That also really simplified things in terms of routing and cables etc.
There are a few irritations but mainly due to the fact that Yamaha's OS X MY16-mLAN driver development seems to be way behind other OSes and a few features are still missing. The documentation is incomplete and misses some essential things you must do to get it working at all! This should iron out later but phone support was quite good in the UK and told me what to do. However, it did give me a nasty shock when I initially could not get any of it working after switching to mLAN..
I recently checked out the remote DAW integration on the 01V96 but so far only with cubase. Setup was amazingly simple - there are presets in the mixer for Cubase, Pro Tools, Generic DAW? etc. Not sure how this is with DP yet (there is no preset for DP) and haven't had time yet to experiment. It even starts mirroring what is happening in cubase (channel names, level meters etc) on the desk in remote mode.
-RealTime control of VST plugins via Rotary knobs on 01V96
I intend to check this out - that would be awsome for some effects/synths etc. That would be a custom set up though and would take a bit of time with the manual. All parameters at both ends are controllable in theory.
-How many inputs @96kHz/24 Bit simultaneously thru mLan
16in/16out at 24bits/48khz (8/8 at 96 which I don't use - the bit depth seems to be far more important for good quality so far). Having lots of direct outs from the mixer into the DAW is really handy if you need to record many people at once. Routing is nice and obvious the other way. Before I had to combine different digital and analogue with cables etc. Much neater and quicker this, the mLAN way. One bizarre thing about ins and outs in DP is that in are labelled outs and outs ins in the audio bundles! But only in DP not other DAWs.. weird..
-Live input monitoring capabilities through Plug-ins and latency
Monitoring with a desk is obviously much easier and lots of pre-level/eq direct outs means you can listen to a different mix while playing than you actually record. Much better than faffing with most audio interface monitoring solutions.
Not sure what you mean about plug ins and latency? in the mixer or DAW? Tell me what you want to do..
-How do the Yamaha onboard FX sound compared to the stock DP effects
Some are good some are pretty average (a bit like in the DAWs!). The best thing is that you can obviously crank up more plug ins in the DAW because much of the processing is taken off the computer by the mixer. Having reasonable dynamics and EQ on each channel of the mixer frees the DAW for more interesting stuff.
Hope this helps.

Thank you so much for replying!
It's becoming clearer to me, that this is the next step for me.
I've been reading up on mLan on the 01X website (don;t have the URL handy--let me know if you are curious). The problems with the Audio Bundles seems to be across the board. The latency issues I was refering to is to do with live input monitoring--a brief synapsis:
I intend to perform using the 01V96/DP setup. Traditionally, I used the 828 to plug in my guitar system, keyboard system, and vocals. In DP, my mixer is setup with full automation for my show. ALL inputs are processed using MAS/VST plug ins eliminating the necessity for external outboard processing. Also, thru the Firewire buss, my .DV video streams out to the projector. Latency is a real issue for me. It is a balance between buffer size and latency. The latency on my guitar and keyboards is not bad--manageable. Getting the video to not drop frames is no easy task either. With the 01V96, I'm hoping to allow it to handle compression and EQ, while DP's effects handle everything else. Because every song is automated, I'm also hoping that I can make small adjustments on the mixer while on stage. So if the drums aren;t loud enough for example, I can make a quick adjustment on the mixer from the stage, and problem is solved. When I load the next song, the mixer (hopefully) will be reset to reflect the automation in DP.
Thanks!

01V96 & DP4.6 remote control
I'm running an 01V96 with an ADAT 16 ch card installed. The stock ADAT and the Option ADAT's all go to a MOTU 2408 mk3 with PCI 424 card, delivering 24 channels I/O at 24/48 or 12 channels at 24/96. If you need more channels, especially at 96k, that's the way to go.
However, I'm stumped on remote setup. I've been working with it a bit and this is how far I've got.
I noticed in the 01V manual that it shows screen shots of Pro Tools set up for 2 hui controllers, each on one port of the Yamaha USB MIDI. I tried setting up DP the same way. I am able to get the first 8 channels to work, and if I set both hui ports to the same MIDI channel, faders 9-16 mirror what happens in 1-8. It seems to be the same whether the 01V is set to Pro Tools or General DAW.
Any insight is appreciated.
Thanks.

DP, 01V96, mLAN.... MIDI?
I kinda feel in family here. I just purchased the mLAN card for my 01V96 and left my 2408MKII out of buisness.
Till now I've managed to record 10 simultaneos tracks (altough I know I can get up to 16) with no problems whatsoever. Well, I mean, after I contacted tech support who told me that the 01V96v2 didn't count as a 01V for the dip switch in the mlan card. Anyway, I fixed that and it's working fine so I would recommend it.
So, basically I would like to know if somebody has had any luck getting any MIDI signal (from a keyboard for example) to DP via the 01V96 wether via UBS or mLAN. I still haven't been able to do so and I would definetly like to.
