The web upgrade requires that you enter your *serial* number....*NOT* your keycode(s) that comes stamped inside of your manual or with your disks. There's info about where to find your serial number (doing "About Digital Performer" on your Mac won't do it).
But their info goes on to state that if you've been receiving upgrades for some time, you wouldn't have been receiving new serial numbers and would need to use your "original" serial number for doing the upgrade.

Well, I went back thru my disks/manuals archive all the way back to DP 2.5 and could find *no* "serial" number(s)...just keycodes. Finally had to phone them and they found my serial number as a verison 2.1 (!). They were helpful, took my order and said "hopefully" shipping by the end of next week.
That's one thing I never really understood about ordering upgrades... I've owned DP since 1.71 and I have yet to see my serial number. I've ordered upgrades all the way to 4.5 and I've never entered my serial number, yet I receive my upgrade. I've heard that if you don't know it, you can still order the upgrade, as MOTU has your serial number in their records... Of course, my luck, this will be the first upgrade order that DOESN'T go through because I don't know my serial number... :)

I have no big problems with 4.6.1 but very interested in the new Meter Bridge•„•. and the Four new editing tools so probably going to take the plunge soon.

It would be nice if Motu lets us the users keep our accounts updated with a page of all our gear that we own by Motu and the information that goes with it so I do not have to track down my manual for a serial number. Sort of like the way Mackie and UAD does. Just a thought...

Cheers!

Hanging MIDI notes? Drum Editor?

Please let us know if you have.
MOTU has an apparent policy of never disclosing bug fixes - I have never seen this kind of information with any DP release. I guess since they never admit to having bugs, they can't admit to having bug fixes

....don't worry James, just having a little dig at the MOTU guys, not trashing them......

I'm on the fence with this one as well. Don't get me wrong - DP5 looks extremely cool, but I'm just weighing that $195 against the $345 I need for the Black Lion Mod on my 828mkII.....can't do'em both right now.

Anyone know how long MOTU keeps the upgrade price open? Is it indefinitely until the next major version comes out?

I second that thought! I LOVE the way UAD lets you have web access to all of your info - hardware serial numbers, software authorizations...it is the best account management experience of all the equipment I own.

Check this thread:

No indication as to when product will ship. Could be days. Will probably be weeks.
I was just told on the phone that orders would start shipping out at the end of next week.

When 2.72 came out, they put out a list of all the bug fixes. That was very useful! But there were SOME people who complained about this and that, so maybe that's why they stopped, who knows. Digidesign, on the other hand, always acknowledges bugs, and is very specific about what gets fixed and when. They run their own board (the DUC), and put up their own posts on the very subject. No secrets there. As a full time working professional, I find this a far better approach.

I guess I'll have to call and find out, although I've gotten used to using Tracktion for laying out DFHS MIDI parts, and although the piano roll in Tracktion drives me nuts, at least my notes don't disappear after carefully working on them.

Looks like there's some cool new features (track folders - what a novelty!), but since I don't use VIs and 4.61 is solid, I'm not sure I'm paying $195 for a fixed Drum Editor and a little more word-of-mouth efficiency.

Every company (Steinberg, IK MM) does this ••••, but it sure gets old. I don't want to rain on the parade, however. You excited guys enjoy the ride!

Yes, last night. But I also made certain to enter my serial number on the order form, which seems to be a popular topic of discussion this morning. Don't know if that's what made a difference...

Looks like a little something for everybody. Kinda pricey so you hope they fixed some of the bugs that they obviously know about. I personallly didn't read anything about being more efficient or anything like that on their site.

Slight rant:
The one thing I've been hoping for was an uncrippled mute button - MIDI control of track mutes and mute groups. Seems kindergarten-simple compared to other features and mysterious that they left this out of Track Groups too - you can group on lots of functions, even esoteric ones, but not track mute. Mute control is so basic to recording it just boggles my mind this isn't implemented and further that others are not ranting about it as well. I just can't believe it's a technical challenge. I've spent hours and hours trying workarounds too but the Consoles area - woowee - it's REALLY a minefiled of bugs. End of Rant.
Anyway I'm still hoping some mute functionality is in this rev though it wasn't mentioned.

Having said the above I love DP, preach it, study it, use it and appreciate it.

Track Folders will be a godsend for me -not only folders for groups of tracks like drums but even more for different sections of a long piece - like collapse sections 1, 2 and 4 while working on 3 but staying in the same chunk so you can still view segues and fades when needed. That will be cool.

Some of the new editing tools make for a nice video but not sure if they will prove useful or not. The VI's look pretty elementary - but maybe they're killer sounding. Only time and $195 plus shipping will tell.

I'll see ya at 5.02

It doesn't. I ordered last night without listing my serial number. I then shot them an email, saying I didn't have it in my possession. I got an email back from them quickly after, relaying my serial no. and saying my order was processed.

I started to order mine this morning then looked through DP4.5, DP4.0 and DP3.0 books, boxes, manuals, quick start guides. I couldn't find my serial ANYWHERE. So I emailed Motu.

Then at lunch I remember I mailed in my registration (how old school of me), and went and looked through a few boxes, there was my shiny white paper from Motu with my serial number...whew! :)

Ordered and confirmation email received!

I can say I would have paid $200 for the input monitoring alone.

Of course, all those new synths that are probably very efficient, nice crayons for my crayon box! :)

I just ordered the upgrade without my serial number. I called tech support (only phone # I could find, and I got through on the 1st try!), and after apologising for calling them I explained my dilemma (no S/N). No problem; the tech was delighted to take my order, and after verifying my identity he gave me my S/N over the phone.

He also gave me this phone number for orders and product questions:
(617) 576-2760

...and said that he thought they'd begin shipping in about a week (today is April 6).
