Motu Ultralite
I purchased the Motu Ultralite and I am very pleased with it for audio. I having problems with my Imac G5 Intel Duo Core not recognizing the MIDI device in the Audio/MIDI Setup in Utilities. I have rebooted the computer several times and click the rescan device. I have also re-installed. For some reason it is not picking up the MIDI inputs/outputs from the Ultralite. Are there any suggetions as to a step or something that I might be missing? Any help will be greatly appreciated,
Much Respect,

Hello KL77,
I have a feeling that you may have another MIDI Drivers folder in your home directory (HD/Users/Your Name/Library/Audio/MIDI Drivers), that is confusing the MOTU installer.
If my guess is correct:
Simply delete the MIDI Drivers folder in your home directory and re-run the MOTU Audio Installer or drag the Motu MIDI Driver.plugin from your home directory MIDI Drivers folder to HD/Library/Audio/MIDI Drivers.
Restart your computer and open Audio MIDI Setup and Rescan your setup.
Keep us posted...

Altoids,
I tried your advice and the Imac is still not recognizing the Motu Ultralite's MIDI ins and outs. I am going to download the updates from Motu and see if this helps.

I too am having MIDI issues with the Ultralite. I am running it on a PC - XP Pro SP2. Sometimes the MIDI is recognized, sometimes it isn't.
I do have to do a reboot if it is not recognized and that usually fixes the problem, but not always... I'd luv to get this sorted!
Are there updates for the Ultralite yet? I don't see any on the MOTU page...

I tried downloading the firewire update. The problem still persist that the MIDI inputs and outputs are not recognized. Any help someone can offer would really help.

MIDI is not working for me now either. Last week I could use MIDI with very few problems. For the past 3 days my MIDI is nonfunctional.
The Ultralite is receiving MIDI info, but Ultralite MIDI isn't even showing up as an option in the control panel of Cubase. I haven't made any changes to my system...
This is happening on a mac and a PC so what's up?
Anybody else with this problem besides KL77 and I???

I note that unlike my other sound devices, the MOTU MIDI does not show up as a true port under dxdiag, but only as emulated port subject to buffering/latency problems (and with a name that doesn't indicate that it is a MIDI port). Even though MIDI appears to work here (haven't tried passthrough yet, though), there's clearly some driver work needed for W2k/XP.
(Not MIDI-related, there's also no directsound mixer, which all audio devices should have, nor any way to use more than two outputs, as the whole channel ("speaker") selection is missing. MOTU gets 2 out of 10 points for the drivers.)
Anyhow, under Windows, one of the first things to do with MIDI problems is to install or repair DirectX, as the system MIDI routines are part of that package.

Well I did a little more experimenting.
I re-enabled my laptop's onboard sound and now the Motu MIDI is recognized in Cubase. I don't know why this helped - maybe the Motu MIDI drivers were relying on Directx from my onboard sound driver to run properly... If that is the case then shame on Motu for not documenting this clearly...
Anyway, this fix has me up and running again on my XP Pro SP2 machine.
Thanks for the info Arth!
KL77 - does this workaround help you at all?

Chorga1,
I'm glad that you are up and running again. Unfortunately, I have the new Imac G5 and the advice did not apply for the Mac. I am hoping that I am missing a step or something, but right now I am using the audio and I have a MIDI controller hooked up to the usb port to help with MIDI. It' s just that my MIDI controller is only 49 keys and I am trying to do some 2 handed chord structures and the sound is different because there are not as many keys. It's slowly growing into a pain, but I am still able to function. I just hate spending money on something that I am not getting the full use out of. It makes me feel like it was a waist of money and time. This is my first experience with Motu's products and right now I am not liking the product or service.

1. Turn off the UltraLite.
2. Remove following items:
••• HD\Library\Audio\MIDI Drivers\Motu MIDI Driver.plugin
••• HD\System\Library\Extensions\Motu MIDI Driver.kext
••• HD\System\Library\Extensions\MOTUFireWireAudio.kext
••• HD\User\Library\Audio\MIDI Drivers folder
3. Restart the computer.
4. Run MOTU Audio Installer (version 1.4.1)
5. Go to Applications\Utilities\Disk Utility and Repair Disk Permission on your system drive.
6. Restart the computer.
7. Once computer is fully booted up, power on the UltraLite.
If above doesn't help, try creating a new user account in (System Preference/Accounts) with admin access.
Good luck, KL77. Remember to keep us posted...
