This guy should stay on his meds...

Post by James Steele »

Well this is amusing... sort of sad. Every one should have their own stalker some day. This guy resurfaces via e-mail every couple of years when he probably decides he's doing fine and doesn't need to take his medication any more. I got this today...
Name: James Steele
E-Mail: xxxxxxx@xxxxxxx.com

Subject: Cease & Desist

Dear James, i could not help but notice your name, i too share the same name as you, i am going to have to request that you cease stealing my name. i am issueing this cease & desist on the grounds that you are violating my civil rights. please do not let it happen again, or my lawyers will be forced to sue you.
I'm shaking in my boots. Although "his lawyers" ought to make sure they get their bills paid before this guy gets committed.

1- You cannot sue someone for having the same name.

2- There are 2 James Steele listing in IMDB alone for 2 different guys.

3- Google the name and you get stories back into the 1800's with guys named James Steele (and that doesn;t even include a Google for Jim Steele!

Jerks abound! We could devote dozens of dedicated websites to the stupid things people have said online and in email. But that doesn;t change the law. Just don;t let the a$$hole get you down. In fact, while he cannot sue you, you can sue him for harassement if HE does not cease and desist! No lawyer would take the case and no judge would hear it.

Just ask Michael Jackson... no, not THAT one, this one:

I'd write back and ask the name of his children and upon his reply (if he has them) write "Wow, my children are the same name too!" :-)
Thank you,

I had mixed feelings posting this. It's somewhat sad. When you see emails like this where someone refers to a broad concept like "violating my civil rights" rather than any specific or relevent legal point, it generally indicates someone who is not quite together in the head. :-(

Well, he's supposed to the one doing the suing and his lawyers would be the ones sending cease and desist letters. So that's pretty backwards.

Are you sure this isn't just a joking relating to the Apple vs. Apple thread?

Or maybe he's just coming on to you? Fingers crossed, fingers crossed...

Anyway, one thing he doesn't share with you is a rudimentary knowledge of punctuation.

I have some relatives that're government employees. They deal with stuff like this once a week.

He needs a hobby! He has too much time on his hands. Maybe he should start recording music or something ,if they have DP in his ward ;)

What a maroon. Don't you just love it when you get online "fans" who think they're going to make your life miserable? What do these guys do for a life, anyway?

I'm pretty sure that first one actually is him. He had some work done after all that recent media attention.

I saw the similarity as well, but I didn't think he would EVER wear a tie! The false mustache is the give away...

I once had somebody calling me a few times a week, because, apparently, I had the same name as a friend of his. Each time, I would have to insist that I didn't know who he was and that he had the wrong number. Just as he started getting more aggressive, and I was starting to get worried, I moved, changed my number (unlisted this time) and it ended.
Another time, years later, I had somebody who had the same name as me again who skipped town owing a number of people money, and I got calls from businesses insisting I owed them money. It took a month or two to convince them I was a different person.
And this was all before the internet became common. I keep my contact info quiet now simply for peace of mind.

Hey... I was wondering when YOU would show up again. You owe me $500 bucks man... what's the deal?!!!

Hehehe... yeah, this guy is funny and sad at the same time. He pops up every couple of years and emails me and telling him I'm "defaming" him. Which hurts me deeply, because you just can't help being concerned when a mental health outpatient is convinced you're ruining his reputation. LOL Wait... I know what this must be about! I bet he plays Mesa Boogies... yeah... that's it. I'm gonna have to call my Marshall buddies and go kick his butt. LOL "We got your triple rectumfier here, pal!"

(SINCERE APOLOGIES TO MY BOOGIE LOVIN' FRIENDS OUT THERE... IT'S JUST A JOKE IN THE SPIRIT OF FRIENDLY RIVALRY. I KNOW SOME DAY YOU'LL BUY A REAL AMP ANYWAY.) :-P

** (Now hiding under his bed, dialing said Marshall buddies. "You gotta help me, man. The Boogie guys are comin' over to beat me up!" "James... did you provoke this AGAIN?" "Umm... well...." <CLICK> "Oh crap!")

Your name isn't Mike Beck, is it? The same Mike Beck who borrowed twenty-bucks 27 years ago? :)

I'm thinkin' it is, man. We finally got him. Got you now, Mike! Any way, I got his IP address and tracked down his address. I say you and me go get our money... with interest... or we tie him down and make him listen to old NSync CDs.
