Popping 24 I/O in a Mac G5, any suggestions?

Post by snipedog »

Hello all,
I am having a problem with a MOTU 24 I/0 installed in my DP 2.3 G5 Mac.
It produces clicks which are very audible prominent enough to show up on the 24 I/O meters every ten seconds or so.
I am running a Mac G5, OS 10.4 and the clicks happen with Cubase SX3, Peak and iTunes with similar frequency.

I have tried changing the slot, re-installing removing all other cards, checking the clock settings, changing the AudioWire lead, and all to no effect.
The clicks are evident on replay, and imposed on any recordings, and look like single sample spikes, suggesting a clocking problem.

I have finally gone back to my M Audio Delta 10/10 which runs smoothly with no clicks at all!
Any suggestions would be welcome. I had assumed MOTU gear was rather better developed than this, which prompted the supposed uprade from M Audio!

Best Wishes
Steve

I had the same problem with a 24i/o and a 424 card.
Turns out i had it connected to port #4 on the PCI424 card. It must be connected to port #1 if it's a single 24i/o.

It recorded and played back but, once in a while a burst of noise would come through, and end up being recorded. Sometimes it sounded like distortion, other times it was just clicking and popping.

Check it out.
Hope this helps.
