Saving Insert settings

Post by roundbadge »

Is this possible? To save , say, a snare drum's settings with EQ, verb, etc, to call up on another snare track at a later date or on another project?

Under project create a new DP clipping window.
Shift clickOn multiple plugins and drag them to
the clipping window. you should be able to use that clipping (a group
of fx) in any project you want.
That's a new Digital Performer clipping window, not a project clipping
window.

CLippings are a very underated, powerful feature in DP.
There are many other uses for it...
and you're welcome. :D

Or, you can just drag the Insert (or multiple Inserts) to the Desktop, or to a folder. That way, they are not specific to any given project and can easily be used in other projects.

DP Clippings (as opposed to Project Clippings) are accessible from any project.

OK - I made my clippings, but can't figure out how to use a window of fx inserts in another project's snare drum track. I tried dragging, but that's not it. Any help?

From the mixer window (Im not in front of DP at the moment)
Shift click on all the insert fx (above the channel strips) slots and drag those to the window.
It should work, I do it all the time.
The manual also explains this far better then I could.

You have the effects clipping in a DP Clippings window ?

After Shift-Clicking on all the inserts in a track, hold the Command key to drag all of them to wherever. All of those inserts will be bundled in one clipping that be dragged into the insert area of another track.

I use clippings for all kinds of stuff:

Effect chains.

Track sets (drums, orch, etc).

MIDI data (Snare on 2&4, HiHat, Fills, etc)

Chunks and V-Racks

Soundbites (2-pop, blank for merging from the top, FX, etc.).

SysEx for synth and POD presets (just dbl clk the clipping and it sends it to the device.).

Text Edit files for session notes.

Girly pictures.

Sometimes, if you have certain mono-to-stereo plugs in your fx clipping, it won't allow you to insert it on a mono track. In these case you have to break it into pieces, separating the mono-to-stereo plug out from the others.

Oh, but Ido!

I'm referring to dragging the inserts from the mixer to a Clippings window or wherever.
I have to hold Command to get the little hand thing, otherwise I get the plugin list.

Or am I missing something (I mean, about dragging plug-ins)?

You say tomato..etc etc.
I've never needed to hold down the command key.
If you shift click and select (say for example) 3plugins in the mixer
window then move the pointer tool just to the left of the inserts,
the arrow turns into a hand tool.
Click and drag to the clippings window.
Works for me.

but doesn't it seem quicker to just hold the command key down than daintily mouse over to the left side of the insert? it does to me, at least.
