Hi everyone,
I'm looking for a firewire audio interface, any ideas? Basically, I want to be able to record drums very effectively, along with record guitars and such. I'm using DP right now as the software an a powerbook G4, hoping to eventually get a G5. I've been looking at the presonus firepod, motu 828mkII and the 896HD, plus the Mackie Onyx's. Budget wise I'm leaning towards either the 828 or firepod because I'm also buying some monitors. However if I need to spend a little extra I'm willing to. Any opinions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Depends on the amount of toms (= channels)
Hi There,
I have bought a 828mkII for the same purpose and needed an extra 8-channel pre-amp to accommodate the 9 channels of drum-mics I use for recording my kit. The 828 only has two mic pre-amp. The firepod already has 8 mic-pre's. The firepod was not out when I bought my 828mkII. If my drumkit would have 1 tom less (it has 4 toms) then the firepod would suffice: 1 kick-mic, 1 snare-mic, 3 tom mics, 2 overhead mics and a hi hat mic makes 8 mics. I bought a Behringer ADA 8000 pre-amp that converts the 8 channels to adat light-pipe and this leaving 8 line-in's on the 828mkII available for other use. I would recommend another brand of 8-mic pre-amp-2-lightpipe: channels 2 and 4 have a hum.
Off-course if you have a decent mix-console of other set of mic-preamps then that output could go straight into the 828 as well.
Hope this helps
