Alright man, enough of that!

No money for that right now, and I'd rather not think about it.

I still think there may be a separate, minor difference, beyond just the muxed format of that optical out. It wouldn't affect me, if I were running on an external clock, only if I were sending clock to that AI-3 and trying to bring it's eight audio signals back to the control room (or listen to them anywhere).

My guess was that maybe the 2408's clock was right on the edge of whatever "level" of light, or clarity of the wave transitions could be tolerated by the Alesis. Like I said, the 2408 output seemed to be fine to some other stuff here, but the Alesis had no problem with the other stuff's clocks, so it would sort of point to the 2408. Even if the Alesis was overly picky about such things, the 2408's output must have been just the slightest bit more dirty or jittery than the other stuff. (dunno :?: )

Take Care,

George

It sounds like you may be choosing to use the ADAT as the clock source. If yes, try getting a decent quality clock cable [bnc to bnc]. This will, most likely, resolve any clocking issues you may have.

Hey XYZ :)

If that's @ me,

Yes, it was through ADAT clock, but that particular converter didn't give me the option of a BNC input (probably would've fixed it).

Only gripe was really that the MOTU was the only thing it couldn't clearly work with, so there must just be the slightest bit more noise, jitter or level difference between that and the other devices. (this was all with the same two ADAT lines I've got running room to room).

Take Care,

George

PS- This was with the 424 as master, but with ADAT doing the clock to the converter. An AI-3 will automatically switch into external, if it detects an incoming ADAT signal.

Oh well. Too bad there was not a clock input. Yes, it seems that in S/MUX mode the 828 and maybe others seem to have an incompatibility.

Hey Jidis,

I think I got out of sequence. To answer your question:

The guy I spoke to at apogee said you have to do the routing 2 channels at a time [minor limitation].
That is only if using it as a front end for someone else's interface though right?
(no relation to the FireMix stuff with the X-FW option?)
Thanks!

Yes, I believe the only time you would see this design problem is when you are using the MOTU interface, AND you are using someone elses A/D/D/A via ADAT light pipe in 88 or 96 [i.e., S/MUX][/quote]
