Consolidated Window Question

First of all I know I've seen posts on how to disable the consolidated windows but can not find any in a search. I have read the chapter in the big manual as well as the tips sheet that came with 4.5 on this but can not get to the look of 3.11. I just can't get used to the consolidated window feature. I have unchecked consolidated windows in the preference pane but can't get DP4.6.1 to let me choose what I want on my work screen. Is it even possible to do this anymore? I can live with it but like the old layout better, supose I'm just quirky that way. Is there a way anyone can inform me as to get back to old school mode, or is it even possible? Specific page numbers in the manual would help too.

Funny I found it very annoying at first as well and I'm still not use to it but it is starting to sink in and I'm sure after a while longer I won't remember what the old way was.
I don't know how to turn it off but I thought I read it on the tip sheet.

i hate the consolidated windows too and disabled them long ago- go to preferences, consolidated windows and disable the sucker!

In a consolidated window, click the arrow that points up/right in the top left of each edit window therein . That should separate the windows for good.
Click the arrow pointing down/left to consolidate windows.

I don't use consolidated windows much either.....I like using Window Sets (with key commands). Very handy.

Consolidated windows can be very nice. I used to think I'd never use it, but now I almost always use it, often in combination with independent windows. Key sets work for both Consolidated and non-Consolidated windows, and any mix of the two.

Also, under the "Window" drop-down menu there should be an option titled "Pop out of Consolidated Window" or something similar to that (I'm not at a DP machine right now so I can't pull it up to check -- sorry!) If you chose that it should bring whatever pane you are working in out of the consolidated window and into it's own draggable window.

I use consolidated windows from time to time but I agree that Window Sets seem to work much better .....
