How do I merge/consolidate audio files in DP/Audiodesk
Ok,
I am new to MOTU software and need a hand, please.
How in god's name do i create one audio file out of several regions on the same track so i can make sure all audio files start at the same point. There has to be an easy way to do this without bouncing each individual track to disk?!?
I am familliar on how to do this in protools Edit>Consolidate Selection, but I havent been able to figure it out in DP or Audiodesk and it is starting to get frustrating. Please help.

If people recorded more albums that sound like Danzig III, the world would be a much better place.

Just insert some digital silence at 1|1|000. Record onto an audio track with no signal coming in. Just enough to slap at the 1|1|000 head, half a second or something.spomer wrote:ok,

thanks for the help and quick replies chris. I really appreciate it.
that all makes sense and it serves the purpose that I am trying to do, i just am left thinking that there has to be an easier way to do it without recording a small blip of nothing
i guess that is what you get when you ignore DP until the last minute like i did.
thanks a million

I had the same issue. this is a technique I use a dozen times a day in Pro Tools but no other program seems to allow that without putting a piece of audio in there. I don't know how (or why) people other people don't do this.spomer wrote:ok,

Do you mean you want the audio that now starts at 8|8|000 to start 8 bars earlier, at 1|1|000? Or do you mean you still want the current audio to start at 8|8|000 but you want the audio file containing that information to start at 1|1|000?
It sounds to me like you mean the latter...in which case, I would think the easiest way to do this is to highlight the track, enter 1|1|000 in the Start Time region selection, make sure wherever that audio ends is somewhere within the Stop Time region selection, and then choose Bounce To Disc from the Audio menu. This will write a new audio file (Soundbite) that contains everything within your current file exactly when it happens now, only this new file will start at 1|1|000 and contain 8 measures of silence (digital black) at the top.
This gives the same result as the suggestion I gave him.ed belknap wrote:spomer wrote:ok,

I think it's easier to keep a small bit of silence in a clipping window (so you can access and reuse it easily), add that to the track head, then merge soundbites. You avoid having to add a new track, route to that track, then bounce-to-disk.
FWIW, I know Sonar allows you to discretely export all tracks from 1|1|000 no matter where the first bit of audio starts. And you can toggle all effects for export off. It's all automated. This makes porting files to another DAW (say, ProTools) a breeze. Wish DP would implement something similar.
