I'm experiencing a problem with dropped audio on my MK II, even in standalone mode.
I'll be playing along, or the band, and all the sudden - SILENCE, and then it resumes playing after a couple of seconds. No power loss to the unit, no change of display on the LCD, it just intermittantly stops; no sound. It seems to be progressing. It happens both with the firewall cable connected and disconnected.
Now, either I am the most unlucky person with a MKII, or I am doing something wrong (my previous unit failed, as well . . . faulty firewire port).
I have taken the unit out of the rack, and reset the board (switching the power voltage button a few times) and have reset the factory defaults. I am going to leave it out of the rack, powered on overnight, and see if it still happens tomorrow.
If it does, I guess I'll have to send it back.
Any other suggestions? Any idea what could be causing this? Do power cables from other devices ever interfere with operation? Am I frying these units by maximizing ALL analog inputs all the time? I'm really starting to lose faith in the 828, and am considering a more reliable alternative. Shame since I've invested so much money into this thing.

Well, I left it out of the rack and disconnected overnight after resetting the board, and it's still failing.
Guess I'll just wait out the busy signal at the "help desk", and try to get it replaced.
Honestly, I think these devices are garbage. Why should I have to get it replaced every 6 months?
I'll do my best to spread the word . . .

No, it doesn't. Thanks for your concern, though.Steven Bell wrote:Have you noticed whether or not the sample rate indicator blinks when the audio goes silent?
Steven
I have returned the unit, and luckily, it was under warranty from my last return.
I spoke to Eric at the MOTU help desk for quite a while (Eric was very helpful, BTW, thanks Eric), and he wasn't sure what could be causing my problem. I was asking him if I was doing something wrong in my configuration, and perhaps if it was MY fault these devices keep failing on me. He couldn't see any reason why they would be failing, as I am using a basic configuration, and am not hooking up anything wrong or abusing it in any way.
We've basically determined that I am unlucky with the 828MKII. And that they are much more reliable than they would seem to me.
So now I have to wait a coupla weeks before I get a new one. Time for acoustic jam, I guess.
I still maintain my stance that I would NOT in any way rely on this products IN A LIVE SITUATION.
