hello everyone,
well im a relatively new DP user and im having some issues with it at the moment. im using a Mac 1ghz g4 with 1gig of ram OSX10.4.5 - motu 828mkII firewire - and korg ms2000b. all i am trying to do is record some MIDI loops so i can work on editing and such; and import audio to either a mono or stereo track.
1) When i set DP to record a loop i play something on my korg and DP will play back thru the synth but no MIDI data shows up anywhere in DP at all.
2) also my tool palette will only let me select certain tools at certain times - like i cannot access the pencil tool in the MIDI or sequence editor
3)DP will also not let me drag audio to the track or sequence after i have imported it to the project.
like i said im new to DP but have troubleshooted it to the best of my knowledge to no avail. anyone have an idea or need more info from me to get an idea?? would appreciate any info at all.
thanks
john

Re: DP acting very wierd
re 3 ... you may be trying to drag stereo audio to a mono track or vicaversa - DP won't let you do this
re 2 ... you may be in a situation when you can only use the "re-shape" tool rather than the pencil tool - eg when there are already MIDI note velocities already there, you need to "re-shape" them rather than draw new values
re 1 ... it's a little bit unclear what you mean by "DP will play back thru the synth" - if you mean that after you stop recording and hit play, then you hear the notes, then clearly they have been recorded and it's just that you aren't seeing them - so that's a view filter type issue. If on the other hand you mean that you are able to play through DP but not record then that's another issue ..... ummmm, not sure ....

1. I've had the situation where no MIDI data appears in the tracks window or the MIDI editor window, but there is sound there. My solution: save and quit, repair permissiions-- shut down completely (do not choose restart). Then boot everything up again after a couple of minutes. Also, there may be other issues with hard drive directories. DiskWarrior has been helpful.
2. While it may be true that you are accessing a tool that might not be used in a particular editor, I have had this problem also. It is similar to #1. Same solution.
3. Could also be related to 1 & 2, but I still have to remind myself to make sure that my audio tracks match the format (stereo or mono) of the incoming track AND that I have not exceeded my studio setup. DP will let you add more tracks than is allowed by the studio configuration (Latte, Cappuccino, etc..) but it won't show the record-enable feature (the red triangle) on those tracks until you've adjusted the studio setup configuration. Until you do this, DP won't allow you to drag audio files into the track.
Hope this helps---
