Any tips for speeding up audio tracks in DP?

Post by funkyfreddy »

I want to speed up a track with live drums, guitars, vocals, etc. Anyone have any luck doing this sort of thing in DP 4.6? About how many BPM's can you go before getting serious artifacts? Any other tips you might care to give would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Fred

Hi Fred,

DP is wonderful for a lot of things, but time-stretching isn't one of them. Take a look at http://www.celemony.com/cms/?id=336 and drool :)

only joking

it's great when you find a bit of software that does it for you. i'm like that with stylus rmx at the mo. so easy to use, but so versatile and easy to muck around with at the same time...

I find the time streching in DP very usable will small clips and short times. I recently remixed a song my band originally recorded on a VS-1880 that I dumped via lightpipe into DP and was able to fix a guitar strums and drums hits that were not perfect due to not recording to a click... I am amazed at the sound. Its perfect.....

Slave DP to an ADAT with adat sync and speed up the ADAT until the computer will not follow, then you know your limit...
It's the best way i've found to change speed with an analogue feel with digital .Of course it will change the pitch of the song (you change the speed of the ADAT by changing his pitch).

Good point. It all depends on what kind of material you're working with, but for short time scaling, DP can ve very useful - particularly on loops that are fairly close to the required tempo. Anything more than +/- a second or so over 30 seconds is pushing your luck, IMHO.
