Well I've stumbled upon this plugin here and got interested in it while looking for a new plugin. So for those of you who’e actually used MB2, especially with the new upright or fretless basses how real does it feel to play? Like, do the acoustics vibe right in a mix, or does it still feel a bit "modeller-y"?

Would love to hear your thoughts before I sell a kidney for the full bundle :)

When I became disabled 16 years ago, virtual instruments allowed me to be a bassist as I had been for 40 years prior. Yes, I miss my symphony chair and strapping on my electric at a festival somewhere in Europe but there’s still a demand for my services live and in the studio. I use an iPad as my controller (I tap on the glass) and, though I have a ton of bass VIs at my fingertips, i use MODO 2 about half the time.

IK Multimedia pricing and sorting through the bundles is just whack. The full version of MODO 2 with all 22 basses is on sale for $49.95. Many resellers have the same price.

You can get the P-Bass for free.

IK instruments have their own player and all open in SampleTank 4 which is free. (The paid versions of ST4 include more VIs but the player is free). All of the CS versions are free and include a few VIs.

MODO 2 is also included in the new version of Total Studio 5 — 4 basses in two of the packages and all 22 in TS Max. Here’s the comparison chart.

I just checked. My upgrade to TS 5 Max is $199. It now includes Pianoverse, ARC 4 and T-Racks 6 Max but I already have those so I need to check to see if I actually get anything new for my 2 bills… not looking like it.

I use MODO Bass all the time; it is my go-to for electric bass. Since Muting is variable, I have Expression routed to Mute Level thus allowing me to vary the sustain and tone with my foot as I perform bass lines. Mod Wheel Slide is also really nice. I dirty it up if necessary using Saturn or Decapitator. All in all, very effective and super playable!

That said, I haven't found the acoustic bass to be realistic. I don't think I've ever used it in a production.

I posted this over on the deals thread; but it's worth mentioning here. It's a triple win. Tons of amazing plugins; including:
MODO Studio Bass, Violin Bass, Studio Upright, 70s Jazz Bass, 70s P-Bass, and Metal Bass, and a few of the MODO drums, and MANY more really good ones. And it goes to charity. I bought the bundle and it's fully legit. GREAT, GREAT deal it ends on 5/31/25
