I have a date with DAE !

Post by laurence »

I have a favour to ask of some of the pro's using Pro Tools with DP on the front end ? I'm heading into a studio with a HD2 rig with 3 x 96 i/o's running OS 10.2.8 and Pro Tools 6.1 on a G4 1.25 dual similar to my own... Of course, I'm wanting to take my DP cd's and install performer into their machine for tracking... They're freaking out but it surely can't be that hard to get working ?? any tips for a smooth install and setup would be sooo appreciated... cheers

I don't think they're freaking out because they're worried about getting it to work. They simply may not want it on their machine, and besides, isn't that kind of against the rules. Why not just save your file as an OMF or Merge all your audio tracks from Bar 1 to the end and them import them into PT.
Just my 2 cents worth.

I agree - we all know how long it takes to get a system running in a stable fashion. I export audio to PT all the time and it's the easiest way for all concerned.

Why not install a system exactly how you want it on a FW drive (inculding PT TDM because you will need DAE) and boot their system off of your drive. I've seen this done and it works pretty well.

I did a similar thing and it worked great. I went to a studio with protools HD. They had 2 of those HD 96 interfaces and a G4 running OSX.

I installed my DP 4.52. Used DAE instead of MAS. The protools hd hardware setup windows were pretty straightforward to navigate in DP. It worked flawlessly.

And of course, I uninstalled DP when I left.

Put your system drive in a portable enclosure, and boot from it. Don't presume to take apart their machine. Sounds like you are more mac-savvy than the folks at the studio, but their stuff is their stuff and your stuff is your stuff. Good luck.

hi guys, thanks muchly for all the replies ! I got here and haven't been able to get DP to work as my front end, so i've been using PT... what happens is it gets loaded and tries to grab DAE but at the end says it has a mixer plugin missing ???? it also sometimes says DAE is being used by another program and to close DP and open again but that doesn't work :) ... cheers

PS, i can get it to run in MAS mode but it only allows me to see a "Digidesign HW Plug-in Stream" of which it shows only 8 channels.. is there any way i can use this to access all the I/O of 3 x 96 IO's ? or at least which 8 i should be able to access... anyway, really appreciate anyone's help ..

i would NEVER want to bring in my install drives and install a new system on an existing BIG PT SYsTEM!! What if something goes wrong?
Just export all tracks or do OMF!
