Fantastic to know I'm not alone on most of that stuff.
MX4 is great, but the GUI is ant sized. So yeah at the very least update MX4, get more features and a better GUI for Nanosampler, a good Wavetable synth wouldn't hurt either. Honestly They should have worked with UVI on getting all of their MOTU Instruments integrated in a UVI player with a GUI and bundled them all for free with DP, that would be a solid selection to start off with.

The time stretching is too complicated, and I do not mean that in a good way. It's been added to and stacked upon to where it's needlessly complex, and doesn't always get the result you want.

Same goes for automation, it has issues with Eucon, and Slates running into issues with it in their next version of Raven 4. We IMO really deserve a decent control surface / keyboard integration that includes parameter mapping for common controls. I think people don't get what I mean by this? Here's Bitwigs parameter mappings. It's all track/plugin automation, not MIDI. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UeK9cGfNDeo

I'm hoping DP12 comes sometime around NAMM, that's the 3 1/2 year mark for DP11, and that's the longest time between upgrades since version 4, so IMO it makes sense. My guess is mid January. Enough time for us to recover from Christmas spending!

I mentioned it to Matt at the webinars. Of course he can't say anything but we are three days from the 3 1/2 year mark on February 6th when DP11 will match DP9 for longest time between upgrades, on the 7th DP11 will be the longest time. DP10 was a huge upgrade though so....
DP10 New features include the Clips window for live triggering and looping of audio and MIDI clips, Stretch Audio powered by ZTX Pro technology, VCA faders, a new convenient Content Browser, VST3 plug-in support, scalable UI and a 5 GB soundbank containing hundreds of virtual instruments.

Biggest issue I've had with DP - on Windows - was its use of the Windows Key. Those key commands are burned into my muscle memory, and I had never experienced an application locking that key to itself before. There are a LOT of system-wide key commands for Window Management, Virtual Desktop Switching, Opening Utilities (File Explorer, Task Manager), Action Center, Windows Search, etc. that do not work if DP is running. It made using my PCs a chore.

This was probably a "least effort" implementation that allowed them to port over and avoid having to remap the key bindings, but it's a legitimate problem of usability.

I thought my keyboard was broken when I experienced this.

I know that when I drag a Stylus RMX phrase over to a MIDI track in DP, it populates as MIDI data that triggers the audio content within Stylus RMX. Am I missing something?
All loops and sounds in Stylus RMX are in REX format.

What day of the week does MOTU usually release new DP versions? Is there a usual day, or is it just random, M-F?

All these years, I never thought to notice..

Well, yesterday I ordered a PreSonus FaderPort (which comes with a Studio One Pro license) and I have been moving everything over to SO, so I am expecting MOTU to release DP 12 within days.

Almost guaranteed.

Therefore, physics is nothing but the laws of harmony of these strings. Chemistry is nothing but the melodies we can play on these strings. The universe is a symphony of strings and the mind of God… it is cosmic music resonating through 11 dimensional hyperspace.

I’m starting to lose hope. Is MOTU even a viable healthy company any more ? DP12 seriously late, hardware delays…??? Not good-

So, only a hand full of people know this but Isaac Hayes had help writing the theme from "Shaft". He had so much help, in fact, that the guy that helped him might qualify as a ghost writer. I only know this because I know the ghost writer. I won't reveal his name but will tell you that his name does appear in an odd place on the movie soundtrack album cover.

Well, J.A. did receive a Grammy for the theme's arrangement, but you may be referring to someone who is uncredited altogether (J.A. and J.J. are both listed on the back cover of the CD, and I can't find large enough high resolution images of the original vinyl release to see if there is a hidden name somewhere in the photographs or montage).

Anyway, best to keep such secrets. I heard a few stories myself while working in the pro audio industry for 20 years before COVID. Interestingly, I still hear them, as the mother of my latest hire works in show business with some top names. But I think it's well known that for contractual reasons and other ofttimes-legal criteria, the names on the credits aren't always true.

It does give additional meaning to the term "shafted" though.

Hardware delays were/are beyond their control.

DP11 being 3 years and 10 months old on the other hand, that's on them. I have no idea why a company that used to be in the top 4 DAWs out there, (In 2001 it was IMO Pro Tools, Logic, DP and Cubase, maybe Sonar as well, now I would say without malice that DP is behind PT, Cubase, Logic, Live, Studio One, Reaper and FL Studio. A solid upgrade will generate new interest, and sales.

The only thing that would really make it worth while would be if you could use plugin/track automation with V-Racked plugins, and if it had a universal control surface plugin parameter mapping support. Obviously spatial audio is coming, but if they fixed their score editor to Finale level and did the aforementioned then it would make sense.

Bitwig has a ridiculous yearly update plan, but IMO even that is better than nearing 4 years between. Not to be a Debbie Downer about it, but with such a long wait it's going to be hard to be excited unless they knock it out of the ball park. :deadhorse:
