Two MIDI Express XTs with a RS-422 cable

Post by mrdelurk »

I read somewhere that it is possible to hook up two MIDI Express XT's via RS-422 to create a MIDI hub with 16 ports. Well, I have two MIDI Express XT's (one USB and one USB-less), so I bought the RS-422 cable, plugged it into both XT's, and - got nothing. The USB powered RS-422 shows up all right in Clockworks and Ableton Live, but the second unit's additional channels are nowhere to be seen. Am I doing something wrong, does this connection require some advanced steps, or is it simply not possible to connect two units this way for a 16 port in/out system? Thank you

I posted this question on on MOTU Tech Support, received nary a reply in 2 months, I guess I managed to stump MOTU. :-)

Check your manual. I have two networked MTP's and they work fine. But you will probably have to change some settings. I have neither the Express XT nor a manual, but if it can really be done, I'll bet it's in ghe manual, maybe under networking. God]od luck.

This is an old thread. The MIDI Express XT that was being made in 2011 is not the current model.
