All of a Sudden I have to Log In Every Day

Anyone else?

Never been this way before; I've stayed logged-in for decades.

It's actually "worse" than that.

Just had to log in again after, I'm guessing, less than 2 hours AFK.

Have you checked "Keep Me Logged In" on the log in screen before you enter your password? Every once in a while, I'll get that screen, and it is easy to just auto log in without first checking that little box.

I had that checked since 2004 or whatever and as I said, I've never had to log in.

The phrase seems to have changed now so I'll log out so I can see wassup.

Thank you Brother Sir Markus.

Yup, but it hasn't mattered since James toned the back-end down a few years back. Prior to that I had to disable it in order to log in, just for a few months or whatever.

Thank you Brother Stoivo.

OK I just checked and it doesn't say that anymore. That might be what threw me.

It now says...

~ Remember me
~ Hide my online status this session

... so I ticked "Remember me".

Hopefully this works and thank you again Brother SIr Markus.

Yup, it worked!

New checkbox name is misleading.

"Stay logged-in" or "Keep me logged-in" would be more-appropriate IMHO.

Thank you again Brother Sir Markus and Brother Stoivo.

You can mention that to the people who make the open source PHPBB software. I have nothing to do with that.

Well yeah I know that of course James and there was never any implication otherwise.

I actually joined that forum back in the day to support you on something (can't remember what), but of course I couldn't be bothered debating them on something as trivial as this.

That said, if they did label the checkbox "more-appropriately" (IMHO) I'm sure it'd save some peeps some time some of the time.

Thank you as always for maintaining our home brother. :headbang:

Hmm... maybe I spoke too-soon.

Had to log in again today. Ticked the correct checkbox again so we'll see if it sticks this time...

I think MN stores a cookie that it looks at that says you are meant to stay signed in.

Have you recently done anything that will affect cookie storage?

I use a cookie manager, but have whitelisted (exempted) MN from the cookie purge.

Yup.

I delete cookies manually and exempt forum ones. Haven't actually done my "weekly" purge for about a month so I might as well do it now. You never know I s'pose; something could be intermafering with something else.

Thanks Stubbsy.

I had to log in today too. Might just be something the software does now and then.

Yeah, but that's something I'd expect only if 2FA is enabled (the once-a-month thing) Brother Stoivo.

Some forums and sites automatically log you off after a day, a week or whatever, but generally I've found that except in cases where it's been maybe 6 months or more, it's rare.

Didn't have to log in today so that's cool. :headbang:
