It has nothing to do with Time Machine. Period. MOTU was telling people that after reading it here.

It is a DP 10 bug that affects Save (may have first shown up in DP 9). The actual bug was posted last year but not in this thread and I didn't copy it over for reference. When it appears randomly, it's when Autosave is enabled.

The workaround I posted of navigating to your project folder and letting it overwrite works 100% of the time. When I have walked people through it who said it didn't work, it worked.

You may see it in DP 11 if you open a DP 10 file. If you did any work, navigate to the project folder and overwrite. If you haven't done any work yet, Quit, reopen and immediately Save as DP11—you will be prompted to do so on your first Save. I now Save every old project immediately on opening as DP11 and have not seen it since.

If you have not upgraded to DP 11, do so. It fixed a number of unresolved bugs. 11.34 released last week fixed even more including some that go back to DP 7.2x.

I'm using DP11.34 and upgraded to DP11 as soon as it came out. I had been getting these errors consistently with sessions that originated as brand new DP11 sessions and were never started as DP10, across multiple sessions. It's a frustrating error for sure. I'm still using Mac OS 12.7.6 and I've wondered too if it has something to do with that at all, but I don't want to go to a newer OS now that everything is stable.

Since 11.34 is new, I ran the Time Machine autoatic backup experiment. Got away with no (-43) error for 10 days, this mirrors previous experience, then today it happened, DP froze in the middle of recording, had to force quit. Time Machine hourly snapshot coincided with the error. FWIW!

I honestly think you're onto something. Perhaps it's NOT supposed to be happening, but really seems like it's linked. I don't like the idea of Time Machine cranking away when I'm working in DP. Perhaps it's something in DP's code causing the problem.

I'm seriously only doing manual Time Machine backups and it's not really a big deal. I may run them once or twice a day. Generally when I walk away from the machine for any length of time, I'll start one. But I do not have it running when doing any audio work.

Was it a new file or an old one? I've not had it happen with a new file in DP 11.

A DP 10 file opened in 11 can give certainly give it — I was not at all happy seeing it after I upgraded to 11. For that reason, I immediately save old files as DP 11 upon opening. Since I got in the habit, I've not experienced -43 once.

When I was testing this, it happened to me in DP 10 with Time Machine off. I already knew there was no correlation but that proved it beyond all doubt.

MOTU has never seen it last I talked to anyone. They read about a connection to TM here.

Maybe next week I will search for the actual DP 10 bug. It was reported here last year or the year before. I've been a bit busy.

The other day it was a file that had migrated from 7 to 8 to 11, skipped 9-10. The previous 10 days of activity was all in that same file, no problems.

It’s a wild guess - some particular write action (automatic or manual) in DP that coincides with the finish of a TM automatic backup might be causing the conflict. I’m also guessing here: more prevalent during recording? It certainly shocks the mind more.

Curious to know about this other bug.

Not sure but it may be a OS 12/7/6 thing.
Not sure every 12/7/6 user are hit, though.

Happens within an hour if DP is up and TM is set to automatic backup.
My routine is still TM manual backup at session end.
A workaround, not a solution.

These systems have been 12 throughout, and it’s ranged from nonexistent to intermittent to constant, then back again.
