HoRNet BalancEQ Flash Sale - US$4.11 (Maybe hold off?)

Post by James Steele »

UPDATE: This one has some quirks... see my reply to this post for more info.

HoRNet BalancEQ Flash Sale - US$4.11

I got this in my email today. It looked intriguing so I went for it. It's an EQ plugin that analyzes the source material and then purports to balance the frequencies. Might not be good, but it was cheap and perhaps it provides a good starting point and then a little tweaking? What the heck..

Use the code BAEQ85SS at checkout.

https://www.hornetplugins.com/plugins/hornet-balanceq/

NOTE: I install these by manually dragging the plug-in files to the appropriate folder. if you do this, you may want to check these topics for help removing them from quarantine:

UPDATE 2: Okay, so I just watched the developer's YouTube tutorial video, and I misunderstood something. This plug-in needs a pretty good duration of audio input to finally arrive at a setting. I had been testing on a mono vocal track in a test project and there was only about 10 seconds or so of material. It wasn't enough to complete analysis. I had to loop playback and let it look a couple of times and it did finally get an EQ setting that was not too bad.

A couple of things:

• VST3 doesn't pass validation, but AU works fine.

• Apparently there is no manual tweaking of the EQ after the analysis is over. I discovered this from reading a review at HoRNet's website. Seems like that's a biggie. If I'm close but not quite happy with the result, does that mean I have to add a different EQ plugin in the following insert to make the adjustment? That's a drawback. Hopefully that will be addressed.

UVI SonicBundle for Super-cheap!

Post by monkey man »

Well this one's beyond-insane!

UVI's offering SonicBundle for $799, cheaper depending upon how many products you already own. For me it's $399.

I'm trying to confirm that it's indeed all products:

Mac 2012 12C Cheese Grater, OSX 10.13.6
MOTU DP8.07, MachFive 3.2.1, MIDI Express XT, 24I/O
Novation, Yamaha & Roland Synths, Guitar & Bass, Kemper Rack

Wow! $399 for me, too! Heck... I don't know if I have enough room on my Sample Library drive for all of that! I have 1.27TB left on my 4TB NVMe external. I know you don't want to fill it too much either. I think they need some free space for "breathing room."

To answer my own question:
Size:
772 GB for Soundbanks and Falcon Expansions (can be installed on an external drive if required)
5 GB for Software and Effects
That would leave me about 500GB or so free.

Thing is it's a banging deal, but I'd bet much if it I'd never use. Fighting my library hoarding impulse!!

Don't forget to deduct the amount of drive space your existing UVI libs are using James.

Might not be as-bad?

Ahh good point! I have a few of their expansions. Still... as tempting as it is the silly thing is I'm mostly a guitar oriented rock guy, who uses my studio for my own music. A massive VI library is something I would lust after... lol... but if I'm going to be honest with myself I don't need. I already have so much stuff I won't use. I got a little crazy for a while with all the "deals." I think I have over 1,400 plug ins installed on my Mac. That's to say, my Components folder has 1,397 files in it FWIW.

Sigh... I should look through it and figure out what in that collection I could see myself using and then ask myself if $399 is worth it for just THOSE plugs/libraries. It is indeed massively tempting.

Understand 100% James.

Almost PM'd you a year ago to ask if you were OK, such was the "splurge" on no-brainer and free deals.

Here's a way to look at it that I'm sure you would've considered anyway:

How many UVI libs are you likely to want to buy from this point onwards? I mean, just 2 of their "expensive" libs like World Suite 3 and the electric-keys one will set you back at least that amount. Done.

MOTU DP8.07, MachFive 3.2.1, MIDI Express XT, 24I/O

I went ahead and did it. Word is that if you write to UVI and politely mention the fact that you own a bunch of their stuff already (if you do) and politely ask if you can get a bit better price, they may accommodate you. I wrote support and they gave me a coupon code for $50, dropping it to $349. At which point, I decided to go for it. Especially since I can break it up into four no-interest payments with PayPal Pay in 4. I'm promising myself THIS TIME, I'm done buy VIs or expansions for now!
