Old Install Disks for DP5, DP6, and DP7

Post by buresmiller »

Its a very long story why I need these but I have lost my own and I need the disks to authorize my computer so that I can use these old versions. Does anyone have copies of these that I could purchase?

Sorry if this is posted in the wrong place but none of the topics seemed appropriatte for such a request...

I was going to ask why, then remembered that the install disk is required for verification. There were two versions of the 5 disk; older one longer worked as and installer after a certain macOS (Yosemite?) but I’m not remembering what that is. If the install is verified in an older OS, it can be upgraded without requiring the disk again. None of these versions work over High Sierra unless you tricked the installer to not format your drive APFS — only way I know to do that was to install it onto a USB external and never update.

Some downloads are complete installers but can’t be used for verification. I know that 7.24 is and at least one build of 5.

It is possible that I may have verification disks in a box somewhere.

FYI, I've had good luck opening DP project files back to DP 4.5x with DP11.

Yes. DP 2.71 for me. I keep an old file just to test this. Some old functions are now part of the Trim plug-in but that’s easy to figure out.

The only reason to use the older versions is if you are installing on an old PPC G4 or G5.

I have some older install floppies. I can't remember if it did a thing where there was a limited number of installs and it would write to the floppy.

In any case, you're welcome to my install disks; but perhaps MOTU Support can help you with installing version 7.

5/6/7 use CDs. These write an invisible Auth File without which, DP will not run. There can be conflicts and MOTU has old support docs for finding and deleting these files if necessary. The full installers that can be downloaded do not generate those Auth files even if burned to CD. This absolutely does not work on drives formatted APFS.

Dirty little secret. The original CDs can be duplicated and may or may not work depending on the quality of the CD drive.

DP 8 did away with all of this.

Again, why is any of this necessary? As has been pointed out, older files will open in current versions of DP.
