More than 4 MIDI ports??

Post by wwzeitler »

I have a Vienna Ensemble Pro instance that uses 7 ports (16 channels per port). However, DP only lets me create a VEP instance with 4 ports. Is this hard-coded? Or is there a preference I can change? (I looked and didn't find any likely culprits.)

That is, if I Add Track | Instrument With Options | Add [1] instrument track(s), assigned to VSL | Vienna Ensemble Pro MAS, I can only add 64 MIDI tracks.

I've used 7 MIDI ports (in fact, this same instance) in Cubase and it's fine with 7 ports / 114 MIDI tracks. So the limitation would seem to be from DP.

I double-checked: VEP is still configured to allow 7 MIDI ports. Indeed, VEP allows 48 ports per instance, for a whopping 768 MIDI tracks for one instance!

Thanks!

Before I do the work of splitting my instance, I'd like to know if I really have to. :)

I had similar problems, due to Windows MIDI device limit.
Go to device manager,MIDI devices, show hidden items and check if there are other MIDI devices installed in the system.
Delete or uninstall those unused devices and check again.
Regards.
