DP 11.33 Keeps Crashing (?) when I merge soundbites

I did a remote voice-over recording, and needed to do some edits.

At the remote location DP worked flawlessly. But back at home I'm getting pretty regular incidence of DP going into non-responsive beachball mode (is that a crash or a freeze or a lock up?) At least now I know to save before doing a merge.

But now it's doing it every time.

Bummer. I hate that... when everything works then, one day, it doesn't.

No ideas here other than, if you can, figure out what changed.

Yea, I suspect just having an OWC dock attached, a second display, a time-machine drive attached, and my old RME FF800 (which is a whole $#!+ show of its own)-- is probably to blame.

I started a new project and dragged in all the audio that I need, to start afresh.

I think the next edits I do, I'll disconnect as much as possible, and not use the FF800. Might be time to say goodbye to that.

OTOH, I'm overdue to do a clean install (and purge of unused software). I dread it so much!!

That makes sense. So perhaps because my home rig is running some operations in the background, it creates a similar issue. I suppose I'll have to figure out what to shut off in the background to avoid whatever is breaking it.

It was never previously a problem before i jumped to 11 on the Studio from 8 on the iMac.

At this point, I suppose it will be a matter of whether MOTU would look at the crash report, if I don't specifically submit a ticket.

One never knows. I have the following attached to my Mac:

HDMI TV
Thunderbolt>Display Port Adaptor> Display Port Monitor
TB>Apple TB Adaptor>MOTU 828ES
USBC Powered Hub>Three USB3 Hard Drives
USBC Unpowered Hub>Two USB3/SATA SSDs
Something in excess of Ten USB Devices via several Hubs.

Seeing how your rig is connected makes me feel like my rig isn't that complicated.

I have another remote session tomorrow, and will be able to put DP to the test again. I'll see how it goes.

If it behaves, I'll assume something in the home studio is contributing and do a little process of elimination.

Sigh. Well, that is a strong possibility here, as well. Still, it is inevitable that I'll need to do it at some point. But it's good that I calibrate my expectations. quiet-resignation-emoji

BTW, I was at the remote session today, and had a crash after merge without other stuff connected, so I guess that tells me it's not related to the other bits & bobs connected.
