Sample Rate Conundrum
Maybe you math geniuses can help me cause the answer is probably right in front of me. I ftp'ed a scratch track of a tune (48K .wav) to a singer in North Carolina who brought it into a pro tools le session at 44.1 and sent me back her vocal @ 44.1 which DP which automatically converted to 48K and its of course in the wrong key timing etc. I don't actually care what the key or tempo of the final song is (its for a background jukebox track) Any way I can get the vocal track to play correctly?
OS 10.4.8/DP5.11/MacbookPro/2gig ram/G5 dual 1.8/4 gig ram (10.3.9)/Kontakt2,Stylus RMX,Native Instruments,Pluggo,Altiverb, fw 800 drives, Yamaha 01V,01X,02R,etc...

So did they track the vocal to your track that was playing too slow?
If that were the case I suppose that you could use Soundhack the change their file's header from 44.1 to 48k. Then it will play in your 48k sequence faster and higher pitched than it was recorded, hopefully matching your track. The problem then might be that it would have a sped up sound to it, in which case maybe DP's Spectral Effects might help by changing the formants (back down).

desktop vs. laptop
Hi,
My 2 main machines are a dual 2 gig G5; and a 1.67 GHZ G4 powerbook. Most of the time the desktop wins the prize. It's forte is video rendering and it always wins that race hands down.
However...
When it comes to converting sample rates, sometimes (most times), the G5 will convert the speed too (without being asked to). When this happens, it's sure good to have the powerbook in tow. Never has a problem with this.
What would I do without 2 different machines though?
Ask a friend I guess...
