DP 11.33 VocAlign Project ARA

Post by simul »

Hey everyone, I just updated to DP 11.33 reading that ARA for VocAlign was finally supported. but it seems I cannot use it at all... am I missing something? I own VocAlign Project 5 at the moment, and for example, I can easily use it with ARA in Reaper (I'm talking about the offline method, not the "capture" method).

thanks a lot for the help.

I dont know about melodyne project, but regardless, make sure you are using VST3 version of Melodyne.

It's not Melodyne, it's VocAlign... different company/product. Melodyne ARA has been compatible for a while now.

Simul, sorry to hear that VocAlign ARA isn't working. That worries me, as I just recently got ReVoice Pro (same company, SynchroArts), my bandmate talked me into it, and it is fantastic. But unfortunately MOTU hasn't gotten to its ARA coding yet, hoping for it in the next update. Since DP is kind of a minor DP these days, Synchro doesn't have a tutorial for how to easily transport audio back and forth, so I'm having to do it completely manually, which really stops me up. I wanted to use it for everyday projects, but now I only use it for pretty involved stuff. Really hoping that'll change soon!

Oh folks. My sincere apologies for mistakingly writing melodyne. :| :(

We do use Vocalign ultra just fine here, as long as its VST3 for ARA.

thanks everybody for the help!
wow, so are you using VocAlign ULTRA with "offline" captures of both guide/dubs? that would be a game changer since I stopped using VocAlign when they discontinued the offline application.

which version are you using?

thanks!

I've got Pro. Tried ARA once and crashed DP, so went to the plugin capture approach, which I've used a couple of times since. Haven't tried ARA again; will have to do so when I get a chance.

Just used it as a plugin a couple of days back, and the "follow pitch" feature worked great as I synched several very wild doubling vocals to a carefully-edited lead vocal track.

cool, thanks HCMarkus. so basically with PRO version, you loaded it in every insert of every track and captured (offline?) both guide AND dubs at once?

thanks

I had three instances going, all referencing the guide via Send>Bus>VST3 Plugin SideChain. I captured guide for all three in one pass in real time.

Pretty much the same way that I use it, too.

ok thanks everyone. unfortunately that is the same method I'm already using with the capture in real time. Since I usually have dozens+ of tracks to sync, I was really looking forward to an offline method like it's possible with PT or Reaper. hoping they'll fix it with ARA.

thanks.

update: just installed and tested VocAlign PRO 6, and it works flawlessly with ARA! it crashed when I used "ARA on tracks", but it works with "ARA on soundbites". this will save TON of time when capturing sources. :)

I am using version 5.1.17 of Vocal Align and it has never worked properly with Digital Performer: an update promotion is currently taking place but I hesitate to update because this kind of processing, if it saves time, is not used often.

I find its use, the principle a little mysterious.

Vocalign 5 worked as a plugin in DP; failed as ARA. I updated to the new Pro version, which can align both timing and pitch. I've only used it couple of times to date, and not yet as ARA as noted above, but it definitely has its place when seeking to tighten up multiple tracks of vocals. The most recent use, as also noted previously, was to align three doubling tracks to a lead vocal. Worked like a charm.

Doing it manually is possible (I've done it a lot over the years) but usually less accurate and always more time-consuming unless the singer is very consistent or you only have a couple of short sections to do and not a lot of tracks to worry about.
