How to view soundbite duration?

Post by Irimi Nage »

I'm only seeing options for viewing soundbite duration in terms of either samples or bars and beats. How do I go about getting soundbites' duration to display in the top of the Sequence Editor? I feel like DP used to do this but I cannot find it now!

In the Sequence Editor, if you select the soundbite, you'll see the duration at the top of the screen, it appears to be shown in beats & ticks. [EDIT: I thought I was seeing a weird duration value, but it was just user error]

Sorry I didn’t describe my question well. I’m trying to see the durations in real time format. Meaning Minutes:Seconds. Thanks still!

I think MH's tip can be a sort of workaround. If you place the soundbite at time zero and put the cursor at the end of the soundbite, you can use the existing ruler to see the duration.

But you're right. It would be helpful to be able to change the time-format of the event info field.

You should submit this to MOTU as a suggestion.

It’s a valid tip but it’s less clicks to open the soundbite in the Soundbites window. Still I could swear we’ve had the ability to do this for years in the event info displays…?

This isn't quite what you were looking for, but it's another way of viewing the info.

Click on a Soundbite to select it. Then, right-click and select Sound File Information from the contextual menu. You'll find the Soundbite length and Sound File length listed separately.

NICE!! Shows length in Samples and in Time. And there's even a keyboard shortcut. On my Mac: CONTROL-OPTION-COMMAND-a (with the soundbite selected)

Check in Time Formats (ctrl-option-T and show details) to select how you want to view in different lists/windows.

Sorry, on Mac cmd-option-T. Switching back and forth gets confusing occasionally. Ctrl-alt-T on PC.

You can even change that shortcut to whatever you want.

This. I guess a key command would work if you don't like the clutter in the Event Information strip, but I refer to duration constantly. So I keep Setup>Time Formats>Event Information>Duration checked.

This delivered the thing I was asking about, thanks so much!
The right click - Soundfile Info suggestion was really good too.
Thanks to everyone who chimed in and happy new year :)
