kontakt necessary (using StormDrum) in addition to Mach 5?

Post by composingfiend »

I've been using the "komPakt" player for Stormdrum, and would like to have access to the features of a full-fledged sampler with these samples (loops and individual sounds both)

As I see it, I've got 2 options:
1) shell out the $270 for a "crossgrade" from KomPakt to KonTakt
2) import the StormDrum samples in Mach5

The central question:
Are there compelling reasons to have both KonTakt and Mach5 running in DP? If so, what are they? Is it worth the money?

Your help is much appreciated!

Well, if you can get Stormdrum samples imported into Mach5 correctly, this would be one less reason to have Kontakt2 (and please let me know how you did it!). I've never been able to import them, and I believe others have the same problem.

I have both MachFive and Kontakt2 and use Kontakt pretty much exclusively now. The sample set included with MachFive is rather limiting and the only libraries I am interested in importing are Kontakt and Giga, both of which have failed miserably.

Others report that Akai samples are no problem but I have never tried them. I honestly would much rather use MachFive but it just isn't there yet for me. The interface for Kontakt is butt ugly and I just plain don't like working in it, but it comes with a nice standard sample set and there are tons more native Kontakt libraries to choose from.

Also, I've been using Logic a lot lately and MachFive can't utilize multi outs in it. I'm hoping that MachFive II will be as good as advertised so I can use it again.
