I've been using the "komPakt" player for Stormdrum, and would like to have access to the features of a full-fledged sampler with these samples (loops and individual sounds both)
As I see it, I've got 2 options:
1) shell out the $270 for a "crossgrade" from KomPakt to KonTakt
2) import the StormDrum samples in Mach5
The central question:
Are there compelling reasons to have both KonTakt and Mach5 running in DP? If so, what are they? Is it worth the money?
As far as I know, Mach 5 will not open those files. That is one of the limitations of the NI model (from the user's perspective). The NI samples designed for Kompakt/Intakt players are monolithic and as a result tied to the NI platform.
As far as I know Kontakt opens Kompakt files without any problems - I do it everyday! As a matter of fact Kontakt also opens the Garritan Personal Orchestra instruments which also uses a "kompakt player", so I suppose it will open most "Kompakt" or "Kompakt-player" files.
