Adobe Elements 2025 is out. What to know before going there. Mac/Win

Post by mikehalloran »

There's a new Elements 2025 out and I bought yesterday through a pop-up link in Elements 2024 — $89.99 through 12/3 is not so bad but... Not quite ready for prime time. This is the public link and I wish that the in-app link had sent me here:
https://www.adobe.com/products/elements-family.html

1) 3-year Subscription only; no more permanent licenses. That was not made clear. Neither was a trial made available through the link but, since I always upgrade, I thought little of that.

2) Adobe emailed me a Get Started link that went to my Account where Elements 2025 was nowhere to be found—but the invoice was. I called Tech Support; they couldn't find it either and had to send me a direct download link. It's still nowhere to be found in my account but they do know this needs to be fixed.

3) No more serial number—everything managed through the account sign-in. Ok... but only if the process is smooth.

4) Although I have iMovie, Premiere and FCPx, my 'down and dirty knock it out in an hour or two' projects are always done in Premiere Elements. PE 2025 has a new interface—not sure I like it at all. Photoshop Elements 2025 is supposed to have a few new tools but otherwise, the interface is familiar.

5) Since Elements 2024 still works over Sequoia, I may kick this back. If I like the new PE layout, I'll keep it. I have some time to decide.

Not happy about the subscription thing. Ugh. I’ll stick with Photoshop 2024 Elements for now I guess.

I'm not familiar with the Adobe Elements stuff, but I gave up on Adobe years ago. I'm now using the Affinity stuff. They've got a Black Friday sale going on right now. I think the whole suite is under 100 bucks.

I don't know how it compares to Adobe Elements but it does everything I need. No video apps yet though.

Same here. Having anything Adobe on my Macs seems to cause issues with other apps, and I got rid of all traces. There are so many good alternative, like Affinity, some of them free, that I have missed Adobe at all.

I could use other photo and AV apps but I like the Elements workflow. I’ve not experienced interference with other apps going back 40 years. There’s a supposed run time error but it’s a Microsoft issue and removing a line from Word, PowerPoint and Excel makes it go away.

OTOH, I’ve been looking for a replacement for Acrobatic Pro for a long time and download every possible replacement that pops up for trial but have never found a replacement that does what I need. Acrobatic Pro 2017 was perfect but they screwed with it in 2020 and it’s an ungodly, intrusive AI mess with the current DC version. I only purchased it when the Text Editor in 2017 and 2020 stopped working over Sonoma. Adobe has been promising to fix 2020 (EOL is 2025) and just last week told me again, to “be patient”. Yeah…
