Record multiple MIDI Takes over a looped section .. Is this possible yet with MOTU ?
Seeing some older posts regarding this topic... is it possible to record multiple MIDI takes over a looped section ?
If not, can anyone offer some workarounds ?

Isn’t that what POLAR does? I used it once years ago!

So there isn't MIDI comping in DP which I think only Ableton and a few other DAWs have, but here's what you can do:
This is one of the advantages of Clips.
This is all really easy, but the hard part is just wrapping your head around it, you copy paste the entire section you want to loop into the Clips window, which allows it to loop endlessly, then you record into a clip the takes as one long MIDI file, you can then choose the best sounding section etc.
That said, MIDI comping would be so cool.

Polar records audio files, not MIDI, it would be awesome if it did though.

You can set up multiple destination MIDI tracks (which you can do in only a few steps), then get a little "pitter patter" of keystrokes to rewind and cue up the next track for recording.
Or you can set your MIDI tracks to loop from right in the tracks overview (in a linear "unloop" fashion) as Michael Canavan suggested, but without using Clips.

The reason to use clips is obvious though, you can't loop a section and record multiple takes into tracks overview without stopping, moving the MIDI and hitting record over and over, but you can do all that in clips.stubbsonic wrote: ↑Mon Nov 18, 2024 7:53 am Or you can set your MIDI tracks to loop from right in the tracks overview (in a linear "unloop" fashion) as Michael Canavan suggested, but without using Clips.

Ah, I forgot (or rather, was in denial) that MOTU killed the loop function.Michael Canavan wrote: ↑Mon Nov 18, 2024 8:18 am The reason to use clips is obvious though, you can't loop a section and record multiple takes into tracks overview without stopping, moving the MIDI and hitting record over and over, but you can do all that in clips.

You can still loop a clip in the regular timeline, but it would interfere with your song, or require you to make a separate chunk to loop the part for dozens of measures to do multiple takes.stubbsonic wrote: ↑Mon Nov 18, 2024 6:14 pmAh, I forgot (or rather, was in denial) that MOTU killed the loop function.Michael Canavan wrote: ↑Mon Nov 18, 2024 8:18 am The reason to use clips is obvious though, you can't loop a section and record multiple takes into tracks overview without stopping, moving the MIDI and hitting record over and over, but you can do all that in clips.
Throwing all of it into the Clips window is the way to go for sure IMO.

I'm not necessarily proud of my resistance to even want to open the clips window, which I have not yet done.

It's a good way to crash DP.stubbsonic wrote: ↑Tue Nov 19, 2024 11:29 am I'm not necessarily proud of my resistance to even want to open the clips window, which I have not yet done.

Good to know. I kind of need more reliable and less surprising ways to crash DP.
