Startup Times

Post by bayswater »

When on Mojave, my i7 mini started up in about 20 seconds. When updated to Monterey, start up times changed. Sometimes it takes 20 seconds but sometimes it takes about two minutes. I've been watching this more closely over the past couple of weeks. The startup times alternate: every other startup takes about two minutes.

It's like there is some parameter that alternates values each time systems powers up or down.

Any thoughts about what is going on here?

If startup and/or shut down times seem excessive — or the Mac doesn't want to shut down at all, Reset the Launch Services to Default. This will take some time, depending on the Mac but it also resets your Apps and some will launch faster after this is done.

1. Open Terminal.app and run these commands (copy and paste):

2. /System/Library/Frameworks/CoreServices.framework/Frameworks/LaunchServices.framework/Support/lsregister -kill -seed -lint -r -f -v -dump -domain local -domain system -domain user -domain network <Enter or Return key>

3. killall Dock <Enter or Return key>

4. mdutil -E / <Enter or Return key>

5. Restart your Mac

Will do. But do you think it is odd that startup times are very slow exactly 50% of the time?
