Yikes! I need to replicate a disco/funk was-wah rhythm guitar for a theater cue

Post by joelfriedman »

Hello List,

I have to create a cue for a show that requires the 70's porn "wacka-wacka" rhythm guitar for humorous effect and my arthritis precludes actually playing a guitar, so I'm left to using my controller keyboard and samples (and I guess mod wheel?). I have NI Komplete 14, I have some OrangeTree stuff, is there a way of doing this that is not INSANE or am I looking at some sort of sample? Any pointers would be most appreciated!

Thanks,

An envelope follower plug can be automated.

One used to be able to get that effect in an analogue effects pedal endorsed by the late Melvin “Wah Wah Watson” Ragin (1950–2018).

Thanks, as always Mike. I think I’m going to take the “low road” since this is a short comedic cue and use a nicely cheesed sample and write around it. Faster for me to bend to it. I appreciate it!

There's a MOTU MAS Wah Plugin in DP that can be controlled by any CC

Unpopular opinion amongst the DIY crowd, but, after years of agonizingly/painstakingly tweaking samples and MIDI instruments to replicate real instruments, my current tactic is:

Find someone who actually plays that instrument. Pay them. Get it done in 1/4 the time, and most likely have it sound better.

Hi Ed.

Yup. That's what I did. I hate routinely writing for instruments knowing exactly what they can do but not being able to get it on VIs etc. Take 2 minutes to write on paper and give it to a good musician...

Thx.
