Crash on playback from 0 when opening project

Post by Bo Brocken »

Hi,

I've been having quite an annoying problem since a few weeks now, I can't seem to find the solution for.
DP11, buffer at 512 or 1024, 24 bits, 48k. MOTU interfaces.

I am working on some projects: recorded around 20 - 30 channels with some plugins on each track, not overdone or too high on CPU loads. 14 - 18 songs in a single project. I have done it for years without any trouble.

But now when I OPEN a project and press START when the wiper is at point 0, then DP is crashing into a freeze with some random meters going high up into the red. The coloured ball appears and all I can do is a forced quit.

Now if I open the same project and then swipe the wiper a bit forward (or select it to a marker) and press play then I am fine: there is no crash, no overload on the meters whatsoever.

So it only occurs when OPENING a project first time and right after that press play. It happens on multiple projects.

Hope someone can help.

Open in Safe mode. Close, then try again.

To launch a Digital Performer project in Safe Mode, you can try these steps:

1. Click the DP icon or .dpdoc file to launch the project normally
2. When the DP splash screen appears, hold down the Alt/Option key immediately
3. In the Plug-In Set Selection window, select Safe

If the project launches and works correctly in Safe Mode, a third-party plug-in may be the issue.

Hi Mike,

Thank you for your assistance.
I have tried the safe mode and indeed, no problems occurred.
Over the next days will try to eliminate plugins from the project step by step and see what happens.
I will report back with my findings, to help others who may experience the same problem.
Cheers!

I'd be looking at look-ahead (often a Mastering Limiter) plugins as a likely culprit. But it could be anything. Good luck, Detective!

Do you have Kontakt? I'd take a hard look there. Also, do you have a crowded dump of automation or MIDI data at bar 0?
