Don’t panic. Many of us went through this. It is an installation issue. There are many threads on this. I’m a bit busy and don’t have the time to find them but I will if no one else does it first. My 828mkII works fine.

Cheers Mike

Thanks for the tip.

I have searched and found a thread with Login Items and Activity Monitor checks. I will do that tonight.

Will let you know the outcome.

Thanks

Hi guys,

My mac doesn' t recognise my soundcard (Ultralite MK3 Hybrid)

Last Night After updating my macbook air M2 to latest sonoma version (14.6.1), I get "System Extension error" at startup, after going to privacy and security setting it says: "some system software requires your attention"
after clicking "Details", It says: "system software from the following developers was updated and the system needs to be restarted before it can be used."

Listed names are "Apple Inc-Updated / Motu-Updated", then I Click on OK and after putting my password and choosing to restart, System Restarts.

after loading , I Recieve the exact "System Extension error" Again, Like Nothing has changed! Everything is just like before and again it needs to restart. I did it again and again and no change at all.

before this update my OS was a lower version (14.0) of Sonoma And everything was working fine.

fixes and workarounds I've already tried:

1. from Startup Options I Select “Reduced Security” and enable “Allow user management of kernel extensions from identified developers” to allow installation of software that uses legacy kernel extensions.
2.uninstall and remove all drivers and installed it again with the latest version that is availabe in website, the one was installed before and was working fine.
3. Repair startup disk with First Aid
4. disconnect second monitor and disable any mouse or touchpad assistant to adjust privacy settings.
5. do all the thing that mentioned above with and without connecting soundcard.
6. remove motu .kext files from library, restart, to Solve "apple Inc-Update", then after restart the error was gone, after that install motu driver, restart, recieve Error and "Apple Inc-Updated / Motu-Updated" is there again.

Any suggestion?
thanks

Hi again

So I have performed all steps in page 3 of this thread, including searching in Activity Monitor for MOTU processes:
viewtopic.php?t=73789&start=30

After that I have removed (again) all files in this thread :
https://motunation.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=74091

So after all this, and a reboot I have installed 89555 again and the same thing happened: System Warning, allow, reboot, and the loop again.

So any other suggestions, something I’m doing wrong?

Thanks a lot
Mario

Do you have any other audio or MIDI drivers installed?

You are doing this from your System drive and not an external SSD, correct?

Hello Mike

I may have other gear MIDI drivers (Access, Novation, NI), you think I should remove them all as well? Good thinking, I will try that next.
I am working on the internal SSD that’s the system drive, correct.

Thank you

I'm on an M1 Studio and 828x running fine. For anyone having trouble, these are the exact steps I used to install the drivers:

Hello all and thank you for your suggestions.

- Startup Options I Select “Reduced Security” : I checked this but it was already in this mode, probably needed it in the last upgrade to Ventura
- Removed any third-party MIDI drivers I could find
- Removed all MOTU audio and MIDI drivers, restarted and installed it again
- Same result, warning, allow, restart and loop again

Weird stuff:
- after removing all MOTU drivers and restarting I could still see a MOTU entry in the Login Items
- the "Apple Inc-Updated" entry next to MOTU in System Security, does anyone know what this is?

Mike, I get your point of always being a conflict with some other driver, so would a fresh OS install be the only (sure) solution?
You wrote in another such thread something about having "forgotten files" from other systems from ages ago, I can certainly relate.

Thank you again to the community

One can ignore the note from MOTU about FireWire devices. It worked fine with my 828mkIi FW only.

Hi again

I see those having trouble take care to unplug your MOTU device (and other devices) during installing/uninstalling, reboot. Well I have done all this without ANYTHING plugged into my MacBook do that would not be an issue.

Also I have quite a few plugins, some really old like Sylenth and Synthmaster, do you think these could be the issue?

Otherwise would a full system format and install solve it?

The only other option is getting a new interface.

Thank you

Hey there,
I have the exact same issue here, since I updated to Sonoma 14.6.1, none of my Motu soundcards (896mk3 hybrid / 828 / 896 ) work any more. My studio is down. I am quite pissed, to be honest. And there seems to be no comment from Motu so far, I could not find any news or working drivers. I mean, how can it be they just destroy working systems?

Does anybody here have any news on the topic or a workaround that really solves the problem?

I would be truly happy not being forced to buy new hardware. I am close to leaving all this DAW chaos and start over with hardware synths only.

Please, cheer me up, folks!! :D

Get one working, all three will work. Many of us have done it. All of the instructions posted above must be followed and any conflicts removed. If you have a MOTU MIDI interface, that must be installed and working first—MOTU Audio drivers interfere.

Fortunately for you, the 896mk3 Hybrid is a supported interface. MOTU should be able to walk you through it and screen-share to look for conflicts.

This is the only correct driver for all three of your interfaces:

Hi everyone

I have an update: I have followed all instructions in the threads I highlighted above (including Reduced Security in the Start Options, “allow” MOTU extensions, removing and re-installing MOTU drivers around 10 times) and nothing worked.

Today I have erased my SSD and installed macOS from a clean state…. And it worked! It’s the only solution I can suggest in case all else fails.

Good luck and then you for all the suggestions

Mario

Hey Mario,

did you erase the disk via startup options? somebody told me you have to erase it in another mac and install a lower version of OsX than sonoma and after that, put it back in the first computer. That sounded a bit weird to me. Except, the installation is somehow hooked to the hardware itself.
Also, were you installing 14.6.1 again or did you use another version?

Thank you for info,
steve
