Bluetooth Earbuds

Post by bayswater »

Is there some trick to using bluetooth ear buds with DP? I tried it and DP continually freaks out about changes to MAS. It invites me to to to hardware setup, which I do, and select the ear buds as the output device. Sound prefs say the same. But them DP again complains that changes were made. Nothing give any result other than DP continually complaining about changes to MAS.

I've tried three different sets of earbuds, including Apple's product and it's all the same.

Am I missing something?

Update, tried it with Logic and works fine.

I bought a second set of AirPods Pro, thinking they were the problem of songs on Apple Music on my iPhone switching to the next song after about 30 seconds, and also repeating songs from the same album after an incomplete play when the entire Library was set to Shuffle Play. I was also hearing podcasts restarting from the beginning after a few minutes.

I had the same problems with the new AirPods. I rebooted both sets of AirPods several times, which is the only advice I could find on the Apple site to troubleshoot AirPod issues. This incomplete playing is a known issue reported by multiple users.

I don't have the same issue when using a Bluetooth speaker with Apple Music. I also don't have issues playing Apple Music from my MBP to either set of AirPods or Bluetooth speaker.

I've inferred my issue is probably with the Music and Podcast apps on the iPhone with some deficiency in the AirPods design.

I presume you are using your Mac's internal audio. I tried using AirPods with my MacPro, and DP won't let me use Mac Internal Speakers in DP's Configure Hardware Driver. If I try to select it, the highlight just bounces over to my Scarlett USB interface. I have trouble trying to get audio from any app to use AirPods as the output device. I wonder if having the Scarlett plugged into the Mac conflicts with the internal audio routing.

It's not important to me to hear my MacPro audio on AirPods. I have a HQ set of headphones plugged into my Scarlett, which I think is better for audio evaluations. If I want to hear my mixes in the AirPods, I'll connect them to my laptop, and stream them over my Wi-Fi network using VLC or some other player on the laptop.

BTW, side issue. My AirPods Pro occasionally start chirping for about ten seconds when they get close to my MacPro, iPhone, or laptop with Bluetooth enabled. I was able to find NOTHING about this on the Apple site, other than their standard "reboot the AirPods" advice.

I've gone through a few sets now since my original attempt. I found an Apple set on a bench at Circus Maximum on a visit to Rome. Had the set Wirecutter recommends, and others I got as gifts. None of them worked consistently. Worst was from Soundcore -- one of them sometimes paired, but never both of them. I thought maybe they had been tested on Google and not iOS, but even the Apple pods had to be reset about half the time.

At my semi annual haircut, the barber said he just got a set from TrueFree that he liked. Cheap as chips, sound really good, always work, and just sit on your ears instead of in them. I wander around looking for them when I'm already wearing them. If I put them on when near my phone, whatever was playing before starts up again. Charge lasts for ages. It actually does all the things that it is supposed to do.

My conclusion is the problems I had earlier were the earbuds, not the setup.

They've been on a limited time sale for C$49.99 for a very long time at Amazon, but oddly at Amazon.com they're, US$55.99.
