No More Pedal Chasing

Post by HCMarkus »

Not quite done, but here is my live gig pedal platform/carry case. Two Yamaha FC7 Expression Pedals will be permanently attached to the left (flat) side; Sustain Pedal will rest to the right. An Audiofront MIDI Expression Quattro will reside above the Expression Pedals for USB conversion, and the Sustain Pedal will shift to a place in front of the Exp Pedals when schlepping. Should be a one and done connection... a single USB cable to connote all my pedals. I'll be adding a carrying handle and latches shortly.

I use a Z Stand for my keys, so no leg interference. MainStage on an M1 MacBook Air is my live sound source.

Thanks Stubbs. It was a nice two-day project.

Here is the platform, placed under keyboard for scale reference.

In my home studio, I fastened a narrow board across my keyboard stand with zip ties. Then fastened my pedals to the board (also with zip ties). It is absolutely not portable.

For live, I've been carrying little sections of this black rubberized mesh grippy cloth to put underneath my pedals-- which works ok. But definitely feels like a stop-gap kind of solution.

Very nice. One of those things I’d never think of, but seems obvious once someone does it.

Here's the low-rent installation for contrast. I did have to buy some long zip ties at the hardware store. But shorter ones can be linked together.

That's clever. I like that it can be adjusted front to back as to where you like the pedal under the keys. In that video, it seemed little wobbly on a smooth floor. Still, I like the elegance of it as a light-weight option.

I think a variation of this, where the cross-strap was more rigid would work well for live.

That's simple and cool.

I built my pedal box so I could connect all three of my pedals with a single USB cable, the pedals would be maintained in proper physical orientation, and so it would store and protect the pedals during transport.

Time will tell if it turns out to be a success or create as yet unforeseen issues.
