Need some loopback advice

Post by muxlow »

I'm trying to have Google Meet calls on my studio machine, play Digital Performer sessions, and the other participants can hear it (and avoid any voice isolation / music muting issues that I've had in the past with Zoom).

For all the random crap I know about audio, loopback makes my brain hurt.

Here's my signal path: macOS -> Digital Performer -> Motu 20Ao -> Analog mixer -> 2-channel mix -> ART 8-Channel pre -> ADAT -> Motu 24Ao (ADAT goes both ways)

Random points:

* My mic will have to be on the analog board as all my USB slots are in use.

* I know the 24Ao / Motu Discover app can do loopback but I'm scared of setting something up in there that I don't understand and wrecking my day-to-day recording flow.

* I've used Rogue Amoeba's Loopback app but it was never intuitive to use and I never really understood why it worked on some things and not on others. I think this is my best bet, though.

* I don't want to change my routing so the mix is coming back on channels 1-2 if possible.

---

Given all that, any advice on how to approach this? Can I avoid Loopback somehow? Should I call in on two lines (one for voice/cam, one for DP?)? Is there a non-technical approach I'm not seeing? I can sort out the step-by-step, just need some big picture guidance.

Mega thanks for any replies!

Look into this:

https://www.sonobus.net

Allows hi-fi audio sharing, bi-directional, via the web. Stand alone and plugin.

It's free!

Downside is everyone must install this app.

There is another one, not free, that allows others to simply go to a webpage:
