The AT2020 is a condenser mic which requires 48V phantom power to be supplied by the device to which it is connected. The connector on the front of the M2 is a combination jack that can accept both 1/4" and XLR inputs. Phantom power is provided on the XLR part of that jack when it is turned on ("48V" on the M2).

What are you connecting the 3.5mm connector to? The M2 doesn't have any 3.5mm connectors. I don't know of any 3.5mm connectors that provide 48v phantom power.

Your solution is to connect the AT2020 to the front panel input 1 or 2 using standard XLR mic cable, and then after it is connected turn on the phantom power on for that channel on the M2.
M1 MBP; OS 15.3, FF800, DP 11.33, PC3K7, K2661, iPad6, Godin XTSA (w/ SY-1000), 2 Ibanez 5-string basses (1 fretted, 1 fretless), FX galore
