Windows changing sizes when dragged between identical monitors

Post by dreamuse »

I've done a search (though somewhat perfunctory), and can't find info on my exact situation:

I'm using 2 identical displays, both of which are set to their default of 1920 x 1200. There are times when I drag a window from what my mac M2 studio has as an Extended display to the Main display, and the window shrinks. Interestingly, if I change the size of the window while it's on the extended display just slightly, I have no problem when I move it.

I believe I've only seen this when going from the Extended to the Main. In addition, I've tried putting one of the displays on HDMI, and then a Thunderbolt port, and get the same results.

Much thanks in advance for any ideas here.

With my M2 Studio, I have a pair of LG monitors on the sides and a 27" Apple Studio Display for the Main. I've tried every which way to hook them up (the Studio is TB/USB4 only).

See if the following workaround does it for you:

If I go to the upper right of the Mixer window, expose the drop-down menu and uncheck Auto Resize, I can move the mixer from one side display to the other with no change.

Moving to the Main changes the mixer to only 4 tracks. If I then stretch it to the proper size and Save, I can now move it to any window without it changing. Sometimes, after Close and Re-open, it will move back to the Main but moving it back and hitting Save again has worked.

It is not unusual for icons on one side monitor to change from right to left and vise versa after the displays go to sleep and wake up—a Reboot fixes this. My Apps would do this, too but Sonoma 14.5 fixed that.

Side monitors hooked up to DisplayPort do not sleep properly. I've not tested this since 14.5, however. I had to demonstrate this bug in Cupertino before Apple would believe me.

Thanks Mike! I'm assuming this will fix any DP problems, but not for apps outside of DP? I'm seeing them there as well, apparently.
