HC, a *very* belated "thank you" for the suggestion to do the processor upgrade. I got a matched pair of Xeon X5690 6-core Intel processors @ 3.46 GHz. The installation was a breeze, but I'd tell anyone doing it that the toughtest part - by far - is getting the heat sinks off and back on ! The swapping processors part was a breeze!
