Two 828mkIIs anyone??

Post by detroitdiesel »

I am considering throwing my 828mkI under a bus.

828mkII and alesis AI-3 have worked well for months. Added a mkI to gain more outputs. Spikes and s l o w plug openings (vintage warmer). Anybody having success with two MKIIs? I'd love the hardware paythrough option as well.

Thnx, DD

I just purchased a second mkII to gain 8 additional analog in's and out's the same as you. I have not been able to get them to sync properly. They will record for a short while then lose sync.
I get the same result when playing back tracks. There is also a lot of popping and clicking going on. I made one successful transfer in the analog mode from 16 tracks of HD material to my computer program. I have had not succes in Adat digital mode.

I'm considering sending the second unit back since I have notice other sync problems posted when using two units.

Yeah, these things do not sync well together.
I've wasted a lot of time (and money) on this with the only solution left being to sell them on eBay and move on.

Thanks for both your replies. I'm actually running a mk2, a mk1 and an alesei AI-3 (via optical of the mk2). I was thinking of upgrading the mk1 to a mk2 but perhaps I'll skip it. I'd reccomend the combination of the mk2 and the AI-3. Worked flawlessly for a year before I tried to add 8 more.

I'm not losing sync (only audio anyway). Things work ok but an occasional cpu spike is present. This seems to have no effect, though.

I break out all sound to the board (cuz I like the sound of actual outboard gear). Things seem to be running alright. I think the new G5 on it's way will help with track counts, etc.

Good luck with the mk2s.
