I gotcha now. DP doesn't want to recognize a USB or firewire midiport as being there unless I configure it to have an actual MIDI keyboard plugged into it. Thanks for your help.

I'm sorry but not everything is about YOU, 1nputOutput! To state that "ThisIsAnUnnecessarilyLongAndAnnoyingThread" is very uncalled for, especially since I was running into the VERY same problem, and this thread SOLVED my problem. For me, it wasn't about disabling multi-record, as I needed it specifically for EW Symphonic Choirs which has a relatively complicated setup, with multi-record mandatory. This thread proved to be very informative and I easily solved the issue which has plagued me for the past few days. Next time, try not being so rude, and focus more on helping others, eh?

That IS why we're all HERE, right?

Thanks guys for the explanation of the USB device / interface confusion and dummy workaround. :)
Works like a charm now :)

Did you configure your Audio MIDI Setup this way?

1. Double click Audio MIDI Setup to get it Open. ( In the Utilities )
2. Click MIDI Devices
3. Add Device
4. Double click new Device
5. Select proper manufacturer and version of your
MIDI keyboard. ( New Device ) You can also write device name there.
6. Click Apply
7. Connect the New Devise and Traveler Icon together by
dragging from connection arrows.
8. Restart computer.

Open DP.
It's 15 years later and I'm so thankful to have found this post. Using (believe it or not) DP 4.5, seeing all my MIDI USB interfaces show up automatically in Audio MIDI Setup, and even in DP's MIDI Monitor, but NOT in the Track List's input / output choices. Normally I never add "virtual" devices for my instruments because I don't use keyboard patch name lists, I just manually enter the bank & program numbers, so I thought I had no need to add anything in AMS. After reading this, I just did Add Device, drew the cables between that and my interface, and voila, there it is in DP's track list ins & outs!

penna... please make sure to uncheck the box that says "Disable BBCode" before you post. Otherwise the text you quoted does not display properly as quoted. I fixed it for you this time. Thanks.
