MOTU PCI-E

Post by thomaspmusic »

I EMAILED MOTU wednesday and Magic Dave himself told me that "...as announced JANUARY 19TH..." (must have been announced to the company unicorn meeting:))
anyway, he told me that they were developing a PCI-e 424 card. An email to Universal audio was responded to the same day to say that they were also porting the UAD-1 to PCI-e after being "...caught by suprise..." (their words) by apple's changing the bus. So, bring on my quad!!
Looks like a few weeks of "built in audio", then I'll be ready to rock!

Do you guys know if the PCI card interface has any better performance that the fire wire interfaces? I have a loaded G5 Quad and it still chokes when I lower the latency down to 128 for eDrummer with BFD....

It's depends of what Motu gonna invest on the development of it, i made the sugesttion allready, but i think that they arre not gonna make it just better, because of the response they made about this situation, i have allready a Quad and a Dual 1.8 G5, for me i nnotice that the Quad it's more stable, stronger and smooth, i have 2.5 Gig RAM on the Quad and 4 Gigs on the G5 Dual 1.8, the start up, the recording with only the 828 on each one and the overall it's just better on the Quad but by farrrr!!!! I really recomend you to search like me, Apogee have announce the Symphony Card, pro Tools Have the HD and Universal Audio it's just getting on their way.. i think Motu it's gonna be more Cost effective, but i don't know about the others... the others have 32 channels at 96' Sampling Rate and they can go up to 192'. So really been honest with you i think that it's a matter of taste and quality. for me i think if they shot out like the Apogge Symphony, i think they (Motu) would keep fighting to be one of a kind, if not well be the judge....
