Falcon 2.8 Update is Out

For those (like me) who’ve migrated from MF3 to Falcon, I just saw an announcement that Falcon v2.8 is available as a free update to registered users.

Yep. Saw that. They’ve also updated the factory library as well. Just make sure you’ve set the library location in the UVI Portal prefs so it puts it in the correct place if you’re using an external volume for sample libraries.

I ran the UVI updater yesterday and saw that. A few of my other libraries, too.

I'm getting a "Direct Download Error" when updating Falcon or UVI workstation. The Falcon Factory does download. Trying to update the UVI Portal doesn't work -- the same error happens. Tech request posted.

Strange. I had issues too when I downloaded it first day it came out. I had no problem with the library download, but the app/plug update itself was excruciatingly slow as if their servers were just overloaded. As I recall it took almost a minute for the download to start and the first one failed and I had to do it again.

I wonder if you go to their site whether it’s still possible to find a direct download link and download it “old school” from a browser?

Thanks. If it's overload, they'll be getting a lot of tech posts. I'll wait a day or two to see if they reply, then retry or try a direct download.

I just checked and you can indeed log in at uvi.net and then go to https://www.uvi.net/my-products and get a direct download link instead of having to use UVI Portal. I'd bet that would probably work for you.

Seems to be working. I noticed the web site shows updates available for libraries that don’t appear in the app. The app is not able to update itself, but you can get the latest version on the web site. But there doesn’t seem to be any good reason to use the app.

Hmmmm... when I opened the app the other day, the first thing it did was update itself then it hung on all five updates. After rebooting, it behaved as it should.

I'm not sure when the UVI Portal had a major update—earlier this year? last year? It wasn't that long ago. I remember something about an error message telling me to download the latest version when that happened. It is slower than the previous version—no doubt about that.

Yep. I’m pretty sure UVI Portal has the ability to update itself. I know it did that recently on my system as well.

UVI replied.

While the UVI Portal can update itself, it can only do so within versions. So UVI Portal V1 cannot update itself to UVI Portal V2. And it is not supported, so it can't update the VIs either. Supposedly it can't update the sample libraries, although in my case it did update the Falcon Factory library, but couldn't do the others.

It would have been so easy for UVI to explain that there was a V.1 and v.2. I couldn't find anything on their site, not even in the FAQ. It's not even in the About... after you open the app—because there is no About…
