Re: Fluffy Audio has FREE Koto library for Kontakt

Post by bayswater »

James Steele wrote: Thu Jul 28, 2022 1:09 pm Just got an email in my in box from Fluffy Audio. They have released a free Koto library. You can get it here:

https://www.fluffyaudio.com/shop/khim/

From the email notice:
We've just released RARITIES #3: KHIM, a FREE Koto library for Kontakt 5 (and above).

The history of the Thai instrument Khim meets many countries: first Persia, then China, then brought to Thailand and finally introduced to Lao and Cambodia. It derives from the Persian santur and is similar to the hammered dulcimer or cimbalom. The Khim is made up of fourteen string triplets, each triplet composing what is called a note. It’s played with two flexible bamboo sticks with soft leather beater at the tips to produce a soft tone, the sound is brilliant but also very engaging.

Features:

5 Articulations
3 Mic Positions
2.7 GB installed (compressed in NCW format)
1554 Samples
24 bit / 48 kHz stereo
Filter cutoff controlled by modwheel (Sustain and Stops articulations)
Dynamic volume controlled by modwheel (Tremolos and Rolls articulations)
Velocity Control Curve
12 Reverb Presets
UPDATE: This is a GREAT little free library. It has articulations and a version that lets you make the tone brighter with the Mod Wheel. Also, it has full light guide support on the Komplete Kontrol series of keyboards, EXCEPT for some reason when running in the standalone Kontakt app. I wrote to the developer about that. But nice sounding freebie!!
The KOTO seems OK< but the Khim file arrives as JSON file. It appears as text. What do you do with that?

Just remove the .json "extension", leaving the .zip one Brother Stoivo.

It'll unpack perfectly then.

It was a straight download for to a zip for me after I double-clicked on the link. Sometimes, Fluffy Audio requires that annoying Pulse downloader — nice to see that this one didn’t.

It opened with Unarchiver, but wasn’t associated with it for some reason. Double clicking opened it in BBEdit. Anyway, got it now.

Yup, the "big" test for me is whether or not the Mac's built-in utility works; I've found it to be quite-fussy over the years, which is why I use The Unarchiver and Keka.

Hence, I was indeed surprised to find that it worked after removing the .json extension, which is why I confidently suggested you try that Brother Stoivo.

Deal Compressor on YouTube

Post by James Steele »

Just wanted to pass this along. I came across this YouTube channel quite by accident and have found it very useful and worth the subscription. The guy is very dedicated and reliable in cranking out these videos on a consistent/regular basis and they've been very helpful to me in finding some good deals and freebies!

Orb Synth for 1 Euro ($1.07)

Post by James Steele »

This came through my Instagram feed. Orb synth normally 49 Euros... 1 Euro with coupon code "ORBS"

Here's a link with info on the synth (which is sparse):

https://www.orbplugins.com/orb-synth/

And here's the link where you you can buy it. (Remember it's the Orb SYNTH product for 49 Euros, not the other packages. At check out use coupon code "ORBS" and price drops to 1 Euro which ended up being $1.07 US if I remember.

https://www.orbplugins.com/shop/

Okay... I JUST checked. This little synth shows up as "Apple, Intel 64" in Pluginfo, so it will run native on M1 Macs! Nice for $1.07. Now I'll see how it sounds!

One other thing I noticed... seems like this little synth... not really sure but sounds like it employs FM synthesis? Either way... it seems to hit the Audio Performance meter in DP pretty hard on my MacPro depending on how many voices you can get going at once. I was actually looking for a parameter to set a hard limit to the number of voices for it to see if that would bring the spikes down. Interesting.

Harrison Mastering EQ

Post by bayswater »

For $9 (reg $89). You can draw pretty much any eq curve (rather than multiple peaks and Qs). AU & VST versions.

Their stuff doesn’t get a lot of attention here, but I like it.

24 hour sale... Rigid Audio Stomp Box $4.06

Post by James Steele »

I honestly don't know how this guy or people do this for $4.06. There's also a coupon code "GIVEME10" that will take 10% off as well. Here's the description and the link:
STOMPBOX is a set of 32 cinematic / hybrid drum and percussion kits for KONTAKT 6.4.2.These kits are velocity-sensitive and are built with around 850 24-bit WAV files.
STOMPBOX features five distinct parts that can be triggered and mixed seperately. Onboard effects like reverb, saturation and compression are also available.
https://rigid-audio.com/products_stompb ... 1cc489851b

I honestly haven't actually even LISTENED yet, but am passing along since it's a 24-hour sale.

GEEZ.... $3.65 with the coupon code. What the heck...

24 hour sale... Rigid Limerance $4.45

Post by James Steele »

Again... another Rigid Audio sale. This one for $4.45, but there's also a coupon code "GIVEME10" that will take 10% off as well. Here's the description and the link:

LIMERENCE delivers 424 cinematic textures and soundscapes.
• each instrument has four layers.
• layers can be blended and toggled individually.
• categories: anorganic, bright, complex, drone, evolving, huge, modulated, pad, soundscape and various
• intuitive, easy-to-grasp interface with a moderate set of controls.
• impulse response (convolution reverb) effects.
• tone control for filter, phaser and delay effects.
• flow control for adding rhythmic modulation effects.
• shape control for distortion and degrading.
https://rigid-audio.com/products_limerence.html

Seems to be ambient, texture, soundscape type of thing. Here's a couple videos, too. It takes up 4.5GB apparently.

I went ahead and got it myself. $4.00 after using the "GIVEME10" coupon code. Plus there's a "free gift" thrown in as you can see in the screen capture. Something called "Nylonist" which I'm guessing is some sort of classical guitar instrument for Kontakt. Should have mentioned also that Limerance does require the full version of Kontakt.

UPDATE: Ha! I really gotta check myself sometimes. I lose track of just what libraries I have and went to install Limerance only to discover I'd already bought on sale previously. Oh well... it was just four bucks. I got "Nylonist" out of it this time, I guess!

One time I updated Kontakt, then forgot whether I did it or not, and bought the update again. (It all worked out). It's funny because the 2nd purchase was based on thinking I forgot to update in the first place.

Thanks for the 45¢ savings code.

I'm a slut for nylon string VIs. I once owned and played a couple of world class classical guitars.
